What's your menu for AHR?

Recommended Posts

We have finally decided on our menu! (Well, part of it!) We are going with a BBQ pulled pork and turkey. We just had a tasting on Friday and it was great! We are still undecided on the sides we want to have. FI would like to have cold sides since it is going to be in August, but I think we should have one hot and one cold side. We still have plenty of time to figure this out. But who knew it would be so hard!?!

Our reception is going to be more informal, so the BBQ idea worked best for us.

I love all of the ideas. At first I didn't want to do an AHR because I didn't want to have another "wedding" or anything too formal, but after reading through this thread I realized that it can be simple, so I may go ahead with the AHR after all. I really like the idea of the taco cart! I love all the information I get from this forum :)

Here is my proposed Menu for July 24 2010 on the Chesapeake Bay. I think it might be too heavy since it'll be in a "breeze house" without air conditioning. I am meeting the restaurant owner/caterer over Xmas and I have only heard amazing things about him! Starts at 3 pm to 8pm - no sit down dinner - just help yourself buffet.

YUM-O!!!!

1st Hour Buffet

-Hot Crab, Spinach and Artichoke Dip with Sliced Ciabatta

-Smoked Salmon, Red Onion, Fresh Dill on Marbled Rye

-Sliced Cucumber and Watercress with Goat Cheese on Mini White Bread

-Fresh Melon, Pineapple and Strawberry Kabobs

-Meat Ball Stroganoff

Passed Hors dâ€oeuvres

-Hot Crab Melts

-Seared Tuna with Wasabi and Ginger Crostini

-Baked Wild Mushroom Flat Breads

Dinner Buffet

-Salad of Mixed Field Greens, Nuts, Berries, Gorgonzola

and Vinaigrette

-Sliced Beef Tenderloin with Horseradish Cream Sauce

-Broiled Jumbo Lump Crab Balls (1 pp)

-Potato Au Gratin

-Fresh Asparagus

-Rolls and Butter

We are also doing a bbq at our house in late August since our wedding is in early July. We will most likely do hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burgers, steak, chicken, and shrimp. Since my hubby to be is from the East Coast, we may bring in some fresh lobster. We will probably have a wedding cake too and since we make our own wine, we will supply that! We wanted something very informal. I won't wear my wedding dress but I might get a white summer dress.

Ok, so I posted back in April that we were going to have something else for our AHR, but that was before we booked (that's what I get for jumping the gun, huh?)

Anyway, now that we officially have our venue, here is the menu we selected to go with our "casually elegant" daytime reception on August 14, 2010:

Hors d'oeuvres

* Fresh Fruit

* Cheese & Crackers

* Vegetables w/dip

* Relish Tray

* Meat Balls (most likely being swapped out for Jamaican Jerk Chicken)

Buffet

* Roast Beef

* Chicken

* Seafood or Pasta

* Potato

* Vegetables

* Rolls/Butter

Assorted Desserts

Wedding Cake

probably going with a 4 tier, so we will have 2 tiers of each:

Vanilla/Chocolate Marble cake with Fresh Strawberry filling

Classic Red Velvet cake with Cream Cheese Icing

Beverages

Beer

Wine

Sodas

Coffee

Signature Liquor beverage fountain: "Married in Paradise Punch"

Hope everyone can find something they like and enjoys themselves! wink.gif

Hey ladies I did a few searches and this topic pops up everywhere so I decided to post in the thread that's been most recently viewed wink.gif

Ok so my question: are you inviting EVERYONE to the AHR? I mean people who couldn't make the wedding AND people who were invited (even if they don't go)? I was thinking of just inviting those people we couldn't include in the actual wedding, but is this rude to the others? thanks ladies!
