Fine China? yes or no?

I didn't register for China either. I know the some people like my FSIL's love their China and use it at dinner parties and stuff. Honestly to me, the food does not taste better when it is served on China and I think that everyday dishes can be dresses up or down depending the setting of the rest of the table.

 

I also HATE the fake that most fancy China is Hand-Wash only.

I registered for fine china and love it! China isn't meant to be used alot. Although we won't be using much for a while cause the majority of our family get togethers are at a parents house, but at some point we'll have our own family and will be inviting parents over for holidays and will use it. I think its really nice to lay out fine china on Christmas and remember your wedding cause you received it as a gift. We have some china already because we received it from a loved one who passed (after she passed), but would like to have a set we LOVE! Also we have nice fisher & pykal dishwasher drawers and have washed our fine china on delicate and it has been fine, and clean! We have the money to buy all of our china if need be, although we set ours up on Macys as a large package. Many of our friends have already decided to go in on gifts together to get us some of our bigger gifts.

 

It really depends IMHO, if there are things that you NEED for your new life together register for those. If you feel China is something you would really like register for it. Do what you want!

I am not in to china even though I entertain at all the holidays for 20 and have dinner for about 8 at least 1x per month. We were not goign to register for it (we weren't going to register for anything but people were driving us nuts) as I don't like the embellished/ornate look. We found a beautiful set by Noritake that is bone china, but the trim looks just like our venetian plaster walls by the dinning room. This set was not as much as most (sug. retail was $185 per 5 piece setting). As Macy's has sales all the time, I have seen it as low as $79. So, we both loved it and registered for a set of 16 and we already received all of the place settings. People will go with their budget and will get you one setting or more. If you entertain....do it! If not, and there are other items you really need/want, skip it. Fine China doesn't have to be $500 a setting...you can find a nice one like we did that won't break the bank but is still "fine china"

I registered for it, I found some I like even though I'm not a fine china girl I know in my futures line of work I'll be expected to have a formal dinner party at some time or another (where I'll be buying food cuz I cant cook hehe)

So I desided to regester, though I may not get any and I'm fine with that too!

 

But me and Tim have been living on our own for like 4 years so we dont need alot of household stuff we will already have double of most hehe

We ended up registering for china and I'm so glad we did. It's absolutely beautiful, and it will be a great keepsake that we can pass down to our children. I've discovered that people will buy it for you, even if you don't think they will. Plus, I found an awesome set of regular dishes that match/compliment our fine china on a black friday sale.

 

I say go for it!

My FI didn't want to register for china but I did. I showed him the pattern I liked, at Macys, but we both thought it was too expensive (kate spade). We found a similar pattern that was quite a bit cheaper (Mikasa) and we both loved it. We registered for the entire set and got it last week, he loves it. I didn't figure we would use it all the time, but once in a while I will bring in out just to make regular dinner a little more special like my mom used to do when we were kids. Since it is Mikasa, it is relatively inexpensive to replace (I am a klutz) or purchse the items we don't receive. It is beautiful dinner ware and I will use it as an excuse to have parties. Do what makes you happy, it is your wedding/honeymoon/bridal shower/time. In both of our families, relatives have been very generous when one of us has gotten married but if you don't expect to receive certain gifts and you wouldn't be able to afford to finish the set, register for the things you really want and will use.

I think you should really consider registering for the china. This is your chance to get some great things you would probably never buy on your own. China is timeless and it is a great reminder of a special day.

As much as I love cooking and entertaining, I am not going to register for fine china. I honestly don't have the space to store it, and we'll be moving around from time to time. I don't feel like I'm missing out, though so if you feel like you are, you should! I am not registering for everyday dinnerware either as I have built up a good collection over time. I do strongly recommend buying porcelain everyday dinnerware, however. Perhaps down the road I'll invest in china if I find that I'm suddenly lusting after it.
