Hi Everyone!

I'm getting married in Playa del Carmen in October. Recently my fiance and I have been getting worried about the violence towards American's that is going on in Mexico. I have been assured that it is mainly on the border but I wanted everyone's thoughts/opinions, especially if you are flying into Cancun and getting married around the Riviera Maya anytime this year. Are you concerned? Have you heard from the resort/wedding coordinator? I do not want to put any of our guests in harms way and this is really worrying me!

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Nikki

Hi Nikki,
I just returned from a trip to the Riviera Maya and can honestly tell you that we had no problems. We took a day trip to Playa del Carmen on a Collectivo and did not once feel uneasy about being there. I can understand your apprehension but the officals in Mexico do a pretty good job keeping their big resort towns safe. Hope this eases your mind a little.

I'm glad to hear you had a good trip. I have not heard anything about Riviera Maya or Puerto Vallarta (where we're doing our wedding) being unsafe. My fiance and I feel confident and comfortable going forward with the wedding, but convincing our guests....well our parents, has been a big headache. They just hear the State advisory against travel to Mexico and all these horrendous news stories. It's awful.

We are getting married in Puerto Vallarta also.  I have not heard anything either, but we do keep an eye out.  I have been to Puerto Vallarta twice and absolutely love it.  I have no apprehension, my fi's parents, who will not be traveling with us cannot believe that we are having all of these people go to Mexico.  They hear the news stories, but do not understand that the resort areas are pretty safe.  That is not the reason they are not going but, I am worried they may end up discouraging some of our guests.

Hi Everyone.

I didn't know where else to put this post, so hope that a lot of Bride's get to see it here.

As of September 14th 2010 the only currency accepted in Mexico will be the Mexican peso. No more American or Canadian dollars!! Please make sure you convert money before you go :)

I heard that this new law only affects transactions over $100 USD, and also that tipping was still fine in USD - is that right?
