OMG! How awful! My choices are the Riu Palace and Dreams and I have really been leaning towards the Riu because it is a cheaper option but if they are not even willing to honour what they say .......

I am going to look on the website right now ..... I was on it earlier today and didn't see any mention of it!

I would definitely be calling/emailing the manager to make sure he/she hears it from you!

I would absolutely email and call the general manager. If she was just informed of this policy change in January, does that mean that the info she gave you about it being ok was from before January? To me, that would mean that anyone she spoke to after January this rule might apply, but not if she told it before then. They are going to have to honor what they originally said to you. I'm sorry you're going through this. How stressful!

Hi Lisa.

I know in the rules of this forum states that, if you don't have nothing nice to say about someone, just don't say anything... But, although what's happening to youis awful, it definitely is not a surprise, at least to me...

Here's why, I've heard bad stories from brides & customers, also I witnessed an outside WC, being treated like crap, just because she used to work with them and quit.

Yes, RIU is a cheaper AI, but not always less is more.

I hate to say this, and I definitely wish that Riu's GM proves me wrong, but, I can honestly say, with only an inch of doubt, that they will NOT honor the past mails, it's a really wierd company and they're flaky on all the areas and to the town in general.

Like I said, I wish they prove wrong, becasue you don't deserve this and I hope that everything works out for the best.

Best Wishes

Thanks for your input Mango, although we intend to maintain our stay at Riu Santa Fe, we are definitely looking at other wedding ceremony options outside of the resort. This all just sucks because I've heard great stories of other brides who have gotten married there with no problems and basically I'm screaming "WHY ME?!?!?" But there is no way in hell they can get away with this and still get our wedding business.

I will let you all know what the manager says when he or she replies.

Thanks for being behind me on this!

Lisa,

Are you using a TA? If so its time for them to get involved. THey have connections with the RIU.. They can contact their sales rep and the area rep. And pull som strings. I am so suprised by this. Erika is very meek and mild when you meet her. She was going to let me bring Suzanne Morell on the resort, but I had to pay a day pass. My photographer traveled with us so I didnt have this problem he was a guest.

Take a breath...try and relax and I would start forwarding Erikas emails to Riu corp.

Let me know if you need to vent.

I am so sorry about your situation. I have a constant fear that something like that will happen to me. I would try to pass your photographer as a guest of your wedding (who just happens to have professional cameras). That's basically what I'm doing. Aventura Spa Palace doesn't allow outside photographers, but I'm just covering their stay and they are a guest. No where in the rules does it say guests can't take pictures during your wedding!

I know I can be risky and try to pass them as a guest. However, based on this horrible situation I'm terrified that when the day comes they will not let him to set up and I will have no photographer/videographer for my wedding.

We are not going to let them do this. If they do not allow us to bring our photographer as they originally agreed or do not refund us the $200 deposit then we will take our business elsewhere.

BridetoBe: I have no idea...I suppose if he showed up as my guest then there would be nothing she could do but what if she prohibits him from setting up his equipment or something else ridiculous like that? Plus, she already knows his name from way back in Sept when I first booked him and cleared it with her so if he needs to show ID or anything then we're screwed. Maybe I should ask him what he thinks of this situation?
