Isla Mujeres Newbie

Hi Jen,

I haven't had a wedding on Isla (yet!) but I was just here a couple of weeks ago. The ferry system is super easy, the boat ride takes like 15-20 minutes in an enclosed catamaran with additional seating on the exposed upper deck. It's actually quite a nice ride at night since they use these cool blue lights around the base of the boat and it reflects off the water. I didn't have to deal with ferry ticket purchases on the Cancun side (our hotel took care of that for us) but going back to Cancun, buying a ticket was really easy. I would recommend that, if you have a lot of guests, to get a shuttle or something because the ports are pretty far from the airport

Thanks! I've actually been to Isla before, ridden the ferry, taken the shuttle, etc., so I know what it's like. And that's actually what made me worried because to me, it seemed like a lot of hassle. Or at least, a whole lot more than simply hopping in an airport transfer van and getting dropped off at your hotel. So I'm just concerned that if I do end up picking Isla Mujeres, when potential guests find out just how long the total trip is really, door-to-door, and how many legs there are to the journey, some of them may choose to not attend our wedding. So that's the one thing holding me back from booking.

Hi Danielle! I too was married on Isla Mujeres two years ago...June 2. Isn't it a wonderful place! It is always nice to hear other brides love it as much as I do! I've been going there every year for the last 12 years and have photographed weddings there as well. I would love to hear about your wedding! I was married at Na Balam and we had our welcome dinner at Sunset Grill.

We're looking at doing our welcome din din at the Sunset too!

I'm not so much worried about the ferry transfer or guests being inconvenienced, though that sounds terrible. We are definitely letting it be known from the jump that the reason we picked this island is because it's "away" from the regular traffic and hustle and bustle. Anyone who comes will do so knowing that this isn't Cancun and if they want to spend a lot of time in Cancun or any other places, there is going to be some inconvenience involved. We're playing up what the actual island community of Isla has to offer instead of focusing on main tourist attractions to be found on the mainland. If they are coming to see us get married and enjoy the atmosphere along with one or two trips elsewhere, I think they will be fine. If they are coming to make this a trip where they get to go-go-go and do-do-do, then this probably isn't the right venue for them and they are welcome to stay in the city and just make the ferry ride in for the wedding. Thats about all I can do.

Hi!

We are planning a wedding on Isla Mujeres, hoping to take over a small hotel and have the wedding there as well.  We are thinking about 80-100 people, probably in Feb or May 2012.  So far Na Balam has seemed like the best fit (based on Internet research).  What do you think?

Hello,

What did you think of getting married at Na Balam?  We are looking there as well.  Any issues with bugs or weird management (I had read that online)?  We wanted all our guests to stay there as well- would love your input.

Thanks!
