To keep kids busy during wedding reception!

During my brainstorm of how to keep the kids busy during the wedding reception, with the help of you ladies, I was going to get them coloring sets, playing cards, puzzles and little knick nacks from the dollar store. I originally was going to put them in a little canvas bag with their name on it, to also use them as a place card seating.

I came across these Easter sand buckets at Michael's for only a $1!!!!!!! They can also use it during their play/sand time after the wedding!!

I got the pink pails for the girls, and blue for the boys..

Is this a good idea?? Does this just call for wedding reception disaster?? After purchasing them, I had the vision of all the kids holding their new sand buckets throwing sand everywhere!!

I think this is so cute. How many kids do you have coming? It could get out of hand if you have alot of kids.

we "guestimate" approx 10 kids.. Now i'm having second thoughts on the sand buckets.. I thought it was a good idea!

You are right, they are kids so it could go either way but if you make a game out of it, like see how many shells you can collect in your pail, then they will focused on a task and be less likely to just throw sand around. What is the age range of the kids?

I think this is a lovely idea.

 

We were going to do a box per child with goodies in it but like the 'pail' idea even more.

THIS IS SUCH AN AWESOME IDEA!!!! What I can do is add a "scavenger hunt" on top of the coloring books and puzzles i was going to put in them!!

The kids ages are between 3-7.. So, this would work out really good!

Glad I could help, and that age range is perfect for a treasure hunt! I babysit for my 2 year old nephew so I am always trying to trick him into staying within my sight!

Is your reception in the evening or day? If its during the day - do you want the kids wandering off with their sand buckets to look for shells? Who is going to watch them while they do this? If it's during the evening, you definetely don't want them wandering off.

 

Granted we only had 4 kids, but our dinner was at 6:30. I put stickers, crayons, paper, glow sticks and coloring books. It kept them busy and in their seats. During the dancing part of the reception, the kids mostly played with the glow sticks and they ran around and danced.
