Would it be weird if we had NO reception after ceremony?

Recommended Posts

Would it be weird if we only had an AHR and no FORMAL reception? My fiance and I don't really want two receptions...

We plan to have a morning ceremony, my question is how would we go about this? would it seem weird? How should we fill the void... Maybe invite guests to dinner later?

HELP!!!!

I'm glad you posted this! The only time they had available for my wedding was at 12:00... blah... so we are wondering what do to! Do we do everything right after (ummm can't imagine doing our first dance in broad daylight), or wait and do dinner and reception later... or NONE!

Can't wait for the advice!

We are having our wedding at 2. We are not having a formal reception at the resort. We're going to have a cocktail hour for the guests while we do pictures and such and then we're going to have dinner at one of the restaurants. Then it's up to the guests if they want to come out for drinks with us (might as well take advantage of the AI resort instead of paying them extra!) or if they want to do their own thing.

So glad someone posted this! My dilema is not our ceremony time as we're getting married at 4pm, but its the financial end of it. I'm really trying to keep costs down and I've already splurged on my photography, so I think we're just going to wing it! I can't afford to host a private reception so we'll have dinner at one of the restaurants and I guess we'll have to find something informal after that to entertain ourselves!!

My ceremony is at 5pm, we plan to do our photos before the ceremony so we can enjoy the cocktail hour (that is included in our package) with our friends and family. We also plan to reserve seating at one of the restaurants for anyone who wants to eat dinner with us afterward and plan to go dancing at the disco that night.

We don't want to pay the resort for food and drinks for a reception when we can just eat at the restaurant without paying for it.

We are also having an AHR once we return to do the first dance, garter throw, etc...because we do want to do that stuff and would like to share that with everyone who can't make it to the DW.

Good luck!

My ceremony is at 7pm. We are doing pictures beforehand of FI & I and BP; we may do a couple after but not many. Then we are doing a 1 hour cocktail hour with all our guests where we will do our first dances, cake etc.. Then we will head to one of the restaurants at our AI for dinner (they are setting aside tables for us at no additional charge) and then we are off to the disco to party the rest of the night.

We had a nice dinner after our ceremony, but not an actual reception (no dancing or other reception traditions).

You could either do a group lunch, dinner or cocktail hour, without it being an all out reception. If you do it earlier in the day, then the guests will be free to do whatever they want. If it's for dinner, they can spend a few hours at the pool on the beach before getting dressed up again for dinner. If you want to save on costs, you could just have your dinner at the buffet, ask them to reserve a part of the restaurant for your group.
