Military restrictions in mexico

Recommended Posts

Well, my FBIL got back to me and most of the requirements are no problem except the "approved liberty buddy". So he said he would be there no matter what with or without approval, which did not sit well with me or his wife since he is making a career out of the military. She also said "he will get booked if he goes which is a bad thing for him. It is along the lines of getting arrested." Also I don't feel comfortable with the idea of having to depend on his liberty buddy so he could come. So since I am still over a year away I think it is best to move to a different location even though I picked out the OGX over a year ago. I know I will find something else that i will love as well.

I don't want to mention this yet to either my niece or nephew until we can get more details.
I'm sorry, I'm not sure. I will ask my friend.

I am in the Army and at my Unit you have to put in your leave form 30 days out if you are leaving the states. The sooner the better Commander's dont like last min. things. Also at my Unit going out of the states requires the BC (Battalion Commander) to sign it not the Company Commander. All that really means is it is getting sign off on by a higher level person since he will be going out of the states.

  • 1 year later...

If you are in the military (or if you have family in the military), have you heard of any travel restrictions to Mexico in the past few days??

My sister and brother in law have just informed me that they may not be able to attend our wedding in Tulum due to a memo they just received stating that travel to Mexico is restricted until further notice. My sister (who is my MOH) works for the Dept of Defense and my brother in law is active in the army. This is really upsetting as our wedding is about a month away!

I just don't understand why travel to Cancun and Tulum would be restricted as all the violence and drug cartels are mainly in the bordertowns of northern Mexico.

Please let me know if anyone else has heard about this military restriction. thanks everyone

I don't think this is military specific...there has been a general travel warning issued to Mexico.

My family is military and I have a hard time believing your family straight up can't go to your wedding. It seems a bit extreme when there is constant violence in parts of Mexico anyway. Are you sure it isn't an advisory or just restrictions on certain parts of Mexico??

Sorry to hear if that is the case, hopefully it all gets smoothed out in time for the wedding.

The original ban was lifted a couple months ago. As for Air Force there are specific areas of Mexico which are forbidden unless there was a new memo that came out this morning? We are traveling to Riviera Maya in November and last I heard that was still OK.

Just FYI this isn't new. The DOD have made several warnings about travel to Mexico for the past year! Anyone with family in the DOD and considering a DW abroad should check with them first if they really want them there. There are a few more hot spots that are tropical that we aren't allowed and it changes all the time.

ETA: I merged the 2 military travel threads in case anyone was curious.
