AHR Ideas

Recommended Posts

I am sure I missed a thread about this somewhere but just wanted to see if anyone had some ideas for a reception when we returned from Mexico. Did you have a theme or just a basic wedding reception?

Thanks for your help!!

We are having a big AHR (300+) about a month after our DW. I want it to be more of a party than a reception. We are going to have a Mexican theme with our drinks (margaritas, Corona, sangria, etc.), and food (I'm thinking Mexican inspired appetizers and a taco bar). We hiring a DJ, but I don't know if we'll re-do all the "first dance" stuff. I think I'm going to opt for a desert bar instead of a cake (I think it would be silly to cut the cake for a second time). I plan on playing our wedding video and slideshow. I'm actually really excited for the AHR. My sister is pretty much taking on the planning of the whole thing, so I know it's in excellent hands.

We are still a long ways off but we are planning to have an outdoor AHR at my parent's approx a month after we return as well. We plan to have Mexican drinks and snacks as well as hiring a caterer for a Pig Roast. I know pig roasts tend to be more of a Cuban tradition, but I did not want anything that resembled a graduation party of sorts. The pig roast will be less formal than a catered dinner but will be a lot of fun. I am not sure if we will have wedding decor or a Mexican theme, but we plan to show the wedding video.

We are having an AHR but its more of a party than anything. And its also an excuse to wear my wedding dress again. We are having a DJ too and no cake either just desserts. We are going to have a slide show made from the pics in Mexico and are probably going to hand out something "Mexico" inspired. Maybe maracas or something? For the centerpieces we are doing flowers (dont know which kind) with limes on the bottom like what we are doing for Mexico and then every other table I have a little project in mind, but nothing set in stone. I will have to post a pic of my idea that I took from his dads 60th bday party.
