That sounds great. 20 people have booked their flights from Australia now so I am totally focusing on organising rather than negativity. Unfortunately when it comes to weddings people will always have an opinion.

UGH sorry i got too emotional reading the original post that i don't have the patience to read the others.... but i too am experiencing the same thing, about ppl complaining about our DW in hawaii, asking why we can't have it here or there or why not in the carribbean for an all inclusive, blah blah blah. the worst part is, the people asking these q's EVERY DAY are my PARENTS!

meanwhile, they were the ones trying to FORCE a shotgun wedding on us when i was pg back in '06. like he FINALLY popped the questions & decided on his OWN to marry me, and you won't even be happy about it? UGH.

Honestly, I'm NOT budging from my Hawaii wedding and if it ends up being just me, FH, and son, then i'm cool with that.. just SHUT THE f*** UP already & don't come!

omg i love this!!! I might have to copy it from you!!!prayer1.gif

Just to add my two cents...I'm going through the same thing as it seems like all of the other posters here...maybe not as bad though, I don't know how I would handle some of this stuff!!! But I guess it seems like the norm...some people are rude, a nice "that sounds sooo awesome sorry we wont be able to make it..." would be a lot nicer than "I wish you would have your wedding here, you guys have been together so long (almost 10 yrs), we & everyone wants to see you get married, if you change your mind and have it here, then we're in" WTF...like I'm going to change my dream wedding for YOU

I know exactly what your saying. My new favorite comment is "ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO GO THROUGH WITH THIS? lol Luckly my mother knows me well enough to know that once I make up my mind about something I do it. My FI's mother keeps saying "SO.......what do you parents think about you getting married in MEXICO?" They act like it is another planet.

So we decided to price plane tickets to a local US for a wedding located at some random city that noone would every choose to visit on there own, hotel and rentacar and food and entertainment and the price came to to be more that the mexico trip. I want to sent the side by side comaprisons but that probably wouldn't be very nice.

But like you I am sick of the stupid complaining. Everyone should be thanking us for not picking some stupid boring place to get married. wink.gif

Steph - I did the local price thing because my mom wanted me to get married in Texas and all of FI's family is in Kansas. It was more expensive for the Kansas family to come to Texas than to Mexico! I told my mom this (didn't send the exact prices, but mentioned it when she was complaining in the beginning) and she totally blew up on me. Told me I was selfish and to stop throwing money stuff in her face and not everyone is as rich as FI's family. First off FI's family isn't rich and second off my family isn't poor and thirdly me and FI are paying for almost everything. She has finally come around, but those inital few months of planning were absolutely miserable. Now everything is fine and my mom is even going to come to our legal ceremony in Vegas! Total 180 for her and almost no complaints from people anymore. Things will get better as long as you just ignore all the negative nancys in the world wink.gif

Funny thing is FI and I thought everyone would be happy we're having a DW, but nope! Like you, and many other BDW ladies, we have families spread throughout the US. I made the argument that if they flew into NJ, they'd still be paying for airfare and hotel. I just let it be and let people complain. If they don't come bc they're bitter then so be it. I'm not going to stress because this wedding is about FI and I becoming husband and wife. It'll be their loss for not witnessing our marriage and not to mention a friggin vacation. Don't worry, this has happened to most of us. The ones who really care will be there.

Thanks guys! My parents have been relatively good about it - my mom's already out buying clothes for the trip (since the seasons will be changing soon and we're getting married in Feb). It makes me really happy to see that she's starting to get into it a bit more. My brother on the other hand still isn't planning on coming and has been complaining to other mutual friends. I'd really just like to slap him and ask why he thinks he should get a say in this. Haha. I love him and really wish he would find a way to go (it's more being stubborn than anything else) but if he can't i'm not changing my plans. Sure we'll both remember him not being there and be sad about it but my main memory of that day will be my fiance and I committing ourselves to each other and its important to do it how we want to.

I'm in the same boat- everyone keeps complaining about something-it never ends. We are having a DW in Mexico and then a AHR when we get back for those who cant come and it seems no one is happy one way or another. Good grief! If you cant afford it- don't come! No one is forcing you to!! Half the people invited haven't been on a holiday in ages so I wish they would just shut their mouths , suck it up and go enjoy themselves. I mean what better reason to go on a holiday and be at a wedding at the same time!? I figure no matter what you do, you can't please everyone , so why try?

I am just going to enjoy my day with the people who are there and truely want to be :)

Hey everyone...Im a newbie here just starting to organize her wedding and am going through all of this. At first we planned this huge wedding with everyone invited bc well, i wanted to please my mother..but it wasnt what me or my FI wanted, so we cancelled and decided on a DW. Well, when I told my mother, she threw a fit!! Like a little child. She keeps telling us that no one will go and blah blah blah. My brother is supportive but also says he's not sure if he can come. Let me say that it is 2009 and we arent getting married until 2011. Are you telling me that ppl cant put money away for the next 2 yearshuh.gif? We arent asking ppl to spend a lot of money. thats not who we are!!! But seriously!! And my mom hasnt talked to us in like a week. Its just plain ridiculous. But we are okay with it just being us and friends. My MOH and his BM already said they were definite....thanks for listening..needed to vent censored.gif
