When to send out invites...

So i am sending out my STDs probably by the end of the month (hopefully). My wedding isn't until April 2010 and I'm not sure when to send out the invitations. I was originally thinking January 2010, but all my guests need to book their rooms by this October. Does it make sense to send out invitations after guests have already made their travel arrangements and obviously know that they are invited?? Plus I have a wedding website that guests can refer to and RSVP on....

Should I just send out the invitations as a formality

I'm doing both. On my STD's I put formal invitations to follow. I think it really just depends on what you want to do personally. I thought the invites would be nice souveneirs and also to remind guests, since I sent my STDs out almost two years EARLY!!! lol.

I sent out my STDs out about 10 months before the wedding, and will be sending out my invites 2 or 3 months prior. Our guests were all booked at 8 months out from the wedding, but we just let people know they needed to get it done!

Maybe you could do some sort of brochure about your resort with booking info and send it out closer to booking time? Or maybe with the STD?
