I hope it is all a joke. The guy has been through so much in his life and until now seemed to overcome it all. If he is really down on life, I hope that Dave's reaction does not make it worse. Very awkward to watch.

I read it was a hoax too, hmm I used to have a lil crush on him....I think hes Hot in a bad boy kinda way He's the guy its OK to date in high school but you would never Marry! LOL

I watched the show lastnight and it was so bizarre. I kept expecting him to start laughing and talk off the glasses or something. There were a couple times I saw him sort of smirk, but it was still really odd! I am not convinced that it was a hoax Dave was in on, as he seemed to be taking the interview one second at a time. If he was on something, I hope he gets the help that he needs, and if it was a hoax that Dave was in on, awesome job, especially on Dave's part!!

wow...so talented yet losing it. his brother (River Phoenix) died of a drug overdose years ago, i rmr that b/c his brother was so talented too and i rmr them mentioning that Joaquin was there when his brother overdosed.

I've also read that it's a hoax. I don't think he really is that out of it or that his publicist would let him do that on purpose.

That was hilarious (in "the office" kind of way). It was uncomfortable and creepy, but yet Letterman did a great job with it. I hope it was just a joke.

WOW! If it wasn't a joke then he is a mess or he was def on something! so off... He was getting mad there at the end... I really hope it was a joke.
