Confused about AHR?

Is it the idea as a whole that he doesn't like. We are very laid back people and we're doing a BBQ in a big backyard, but we're incorporating it w/ a college football game day. So we'll be playing our video and photos and FFIL is bbqing and just hanging out. Then we'll play the football game (we live right next to the stadium, so some people are actually going to go to the game). We'll have a cake and food, but no dancing. And i have this weird thing about wearing my dress again so I'm just getting a summery dress from Jcrew or something for AHR. We love the idea, and its hardly costing us anything, and we're having around 200 + people. It'll kind of be an open house thing so people can feel free to come and go and not have to have everyone at a certain time.

I have had my days that I wanted to have an AHR and days that I had to be talked back into it. Our life is so busy and crazy right now, that I just have gotten frustrated with it. In the end, I do want to have it since there are a lot of people including grandparents that were unable to make it to our wedding that still want to be a part of our day. We didn't have a dance at our DW either as our group wasn't a big dancing crowd and since we were having the AHR, we will have the dance there. We are having the typical wedding reception except there just won't be a ceremony before hand, and the wedding party are all wearing their wedding outfits/dresses. That way those who weren't there, still feel like they are part of our big day.

If you are going with a casual party/BBQ, then you may not want to wear your wedding dress, depending on the style of it.

Don't stress just yet!!! Think this "You WILL be able to find something somewhere!!" Heck if you have to make it 6 weeks then go for that. Remember no set time you need to have your AHR. Find a place you like and just see what dates they have available, unless you are really stuck on a date. It will all turn out great no matter what or where you find. I said that my AHR wasn't going to stress me... but I won't lie... silly things pissed me off the most.. BUT the hard part is out of the way... by then you will already be married and who cares bout anything else... the word to think about is FUN!!!

We're having ours just about 2 months after our wedding. We have people from all over that we are inviting so we want to give those coming to both some time in between the two events (My FMIL lives in FL, we live in NY, our wedding is in Cancun and the AHR is in OH). It also gives us some time to save up for the final deposits after we finish the actual wedding.

I wouldn't worry about the time frame of when you have an AHR, you are celebrating your marriage, you can do that whenever you want!

We decided to have an AHR since a lot of our family cannot come to Jamaica...it will be mostly friends that attend (probably).

We are having it at an old train station that has been refurbished. We are going to have a buffet to keep it more casual. And, we have gotten a DJ. But, we will not be doing any of the traditional wedding reception things - cake (we are going to have some really great desserts instead), dances, etc.

I am planning on wearing just a nice sundress, and not all of the bridal party will even be present at the AHR (my MOH does not live nearby).

We actually scheduled it a month after our wedding after confirming with our photographer that we will have the DVD of our pictures back by then (Our photographer is a local one that will be coming with us to Jamaica). And we plan to have our pictures on a loop and show the video of our wedding.

We essentially just want it to be an opportunity to celebrate with everyone that could not come to Jamaica.
