My future MiL and FiL were just in town, and I feel a bit better about the situation now. They said that they plan to make toasts no matter what, and they imagine that quite a few other family members will too. It's an intimate setting, and a lot of my guests are a bit...sappy, so I think people will feel comfortable to talk if they want to. We're not going to worry about asking anyone specific, especially because we know that some of the people who would traditionally make a speech wouldn't really be comfortable doing it (such as the BM).

The only person I'm going to talk to is my dad. I'm going to ask him to welcome everyone to the reception (which will hopefully somewhat open the floor and make everyone else more comfortable).

I'm not going to use a mic or anything. I don't think managing to be heard by 20 people is very difficult, and I find that microphones always make people more nervous!

Anyways...that's my current game plan, but I'll let you know if anything changes!
