Our dog (whose sitting on my lap as I'm trying to type this) is a 3 year-old boxer-lab mix weighing 80 lbs. He eats EVERYTHING, especially the stuff we don't want him to like sticks, cardboard, grass, old garbage, etc. We feed him Science Diet food (both wet and dry) which he enjoys, we just can't stop him from eating the other stuff. I don't think you are doing anything wrong especially since he has been able to tolerate his food in the past.
