kate (lala) wrote down these ideas and i thought i would share them to hear your personal stories, additions, etc.

Destination weddings are not a new trend. They are just a way for us, the “modern couple,” to have a wedding that reflects who we really are. We are couples who live five states away from our family. Our best friends live all across the globe. We live together, have homes together, and have children together. Our last “anniversary” was in the double digits.

If we had a traditional wedding, what would that look like? The majority of people on the invite list would have to fly in from other states, other countries, and other continents. At the reception we would only get to spend a few hours with our friends and family. The next day, we might see a few of them at brunch for another hour. And thatâ€s it. The wedding would be over and our favorite people in the world would fly back to their own lives.

The DW gives us many full days and nights to spend with those who traveled so far to share our special day. We get to meet up for breakfast, go on tourist excursions, relax by the pool, and enjoy spa treatments together. Itâ€s not just a celebration of two people getting married – itâ€s a celebration of each and every person who knows us, loves us, and got us to the alter in the first place.

this is what i wrote for the homepage of this site:

Have you dreamed of getting married on the beach in an exotic location like Mexico, Hawaii, Fiji or the Caribbean? Do you want to plan a wedding so unique and creative that your guests will talk about it years later? Your relationship with your fiancé is a unique one so why have a "traditional" wedding like everyone else when you can get married next to the ocean.

Having a destination wedding is an amazing way to start your life together as a couple. Your destination wedding will not just be a one day celebration with your family and friends but instead vacation filled with memories. If planned well, you can create a vacation that is both affordable for your guests and unforgettable - but if not planned well, can be disastrous. We've all heard the horror stories of hotels claiming to be "paradise" but not disclosing they were next to a sewer plant....or putting a hefty deposit down with a wedding coordinator in Mexico, to have them suddenly not return your calls. Working with reputable vendors and resorts will help you deter these potential problems. If you are not good at this sort of thing, or don't have the time to invest in research and planning, we recommend hiring a wedding planner.

Because destination weddings mean traveling far away from home, you and your guests will need plenty of time for planning. We also recommend that you spend more time researching than you would with a traditional wedding. You must deal with the local way of doing business as well as the legal requirements for marriage in the country that you plan to wed. Once you have decided that you want to get away to "tie the knot" destination style, where do you start?

Well, you are in the right place.... Welcome to the Best Destination Wedding Website!

i like those 2 examples you posted. the only thing i'd say about the first is that it's all about the practical side of why people have a dw. and to be honest, none of that crossed my mind! i can related MUCH more with the 2nd article - paul and i just wanted a dw, "just because" - we didn't put any more thought into it. we both love the beach, so that was it! i think that might be the only piece the 1st article is missing - it approaches a dw as a logical choice, whereas for us it wasn't logical at all - it was just what we wanted to do! it's very well written, so i don't want to take away from that, but personally, i didn't relate to it at all. i think there are also many young 20s gals on this site, still living at home, that want a dw - we need to speak to those gals too!

i think a combination of these would be ideal so that it covers all bases!

I agree with my sis Ann.. Cain and I choose a DW because we knew we wanted to be married on the beach, and we wanted it at a place that neither of us had been before and a place that was beautiful. Plus I had NO desire to get married in our local town, too much drama to deal with and it just wasn't something that Cain and I ever considered, if we couldn't afford a DW we would have gotten married in Vegas or at our local court house.
