Flying with Wedding Dress

Oh Great, something else to worry about...I really am trying to stay positive, but I am beginning to think the DW idea is getting way more complicated than a church wedding and reception at home.

In terms of USAir...I travel quite a bit for business using USAir, and I know they just changed their carry on policy and they are being much more strict than they used to be. Also, they are getting rid of thier closets - if you are on an older plane they may have one but the newer ones most often do not. I know when I booked my flight on USAir, carrying the dress on was not supposed to be a problem. In fact, I saw another bride doing so in January. But, with the new policies, I am a little nervous. Also, to let you know, you might have to get the sympathies of the gate agents. They tend to enforce the policy more than the flight attendents. I do not want to add to the stress, but I thought I would pass along what I saw/experienced traveling this past week

We are using miles to upgrade ourselves to first class basically just for that reason. We almost have enough miles now, but FI said I should book just one first class ticket so I can carry my dress on - he said he doesn't care where he sits, so he'll sit in coach - hahaha, how awful would that be of me what a way to fly to our wedding

I carried my dress on ( we flew Airtran to PR) and just put it in an overhead bin on top of the other carry-ons. My mom did the same with the suits but on USAir. Most employees are happy to help anyway they can. We used a travel steamer when we got to the hotel to smooth any wrinkles.

I've decided that this will be the one bridezilla moment I will have if needed. I will absolutely not check my dress so I'm hoping the flight attendants will be accomodating.

 

I wouldn't worry about what the airline customer rep said. They are far removed from actually going on the plane and I'm sure it's their policy to say that even though most people will probably get away with it.

 

Just ask the flight attendants and their response will probably surprise you. People are always happy to see people in love!

Oh crap, that sucks! I never even considered this to be something to worry about. That's terrible.

I guess now is a good time to see if anyone has some miles they can "donate" as a wedding gift to try and get first class. I don't know what I will do if I get to the airport and they tell me I have to check it...geesh. I'm definately going to be a wreck thinking about that!

I am flying Jetblue to my Vegas wedding, and it never occurred to me that they wouldn't have a place to hang my wedding dress! I never thought for one minute that I would be checking the dress, especially after seeing an episode of Southwest "Airline". A bride checked her dress for her DW wedding. All was fine they were even thoughtful enough to put it on top of the other luggage not to get wrinkled. The problem was that on the way from the plane to the terminal the dress slid off the top of the trolley and got caught in the wheels. No one noticed until it was time to unload the luggage into the terminal. By that time the dress in was in shreds! I felt so horrible for the bride. Of course, no one wanted to tell her! I truly don't remember her reaction, but I know I would have gotten MEDIEVAL in the terminal! How do you tell a bride that her dress is ruined?!?
