I think it depends. I live in Ontario Canada too. Technically if we shop clothes oversea and they are over the value of $20 not made in US or Mexico, we are obliged to pay HST and custom duty. However it also depends on the custom officer who inspects your parcel. I shop online all the time and most of the time my parcel comes through no problem, although occasionally I have to pay tax. I think the best way to avoid paying tax is asking sellers labal the parcel content as gift and declair a low custom value.

@Foxxy Why are you attacking my post? I was just telling people what my experience was and giving some advice. Amalia clearly has something to do with service because she is a customer service rep. and some people who ordered from them did get their dress on time. You also made a negative comment under see2bee512's wedding pictures a few pages back which was not nice.

I think things at SOP have gone down hill a little since Amalia isn't there anymore. Everyone says that their dresses are really well made but that sometimes communication is not so good and that it takes a long time to get the dress in. I ordered my second dress from them before Amalia left and I'm waiting for it to come in. I will let you all know how the second one is when it gets here and if its on time or not. I would say that its definitly worth ordering from them if you have a lot of time before your wedding or if/when Amalia ever comes back she is great to work with.

MsCherryCoke,

Thanks for your well wishes, but I won't be holding my breath on that one! I had a plan B in place and I went with that.

In my case, i asked Shade of Pale to send my dress as a gift (to Europe) and make delivery to my doors(as they always promise), but 5 month later (which was already too late to have that dress because my wedding has passed) i got a call from the airport and was told that my post has finally arrived,it  is at customs house and i need to come myself to pick it up and pay tax.

Well, I just got an email notification that my dressilyme gown shipped!  They never even sent me pictures.  Fed Ex tracking says it will be here in 2 DAYS!  I am so nervous.  I just confirmed my order with them on June 6th.  I will post pics when I get it.  Fingers crossed

I have just got engaged and am starting to look out for options for a bridal gown.....I always had my eyes set on a Maggie sottero or Sophia tolli gown....but it's way out of my budget and I don't wanna spend so much . I live in UAE and bridal gown stores are limited. Ive read almost 400 pages of this site . I can afford to do that as I'm not working for now. I've narrowed down to Gianinarbridal , duosheng ,Jasmines bridal and tops partner. Now I need to start checking stores for a style that best suits me. I'm on the slimmer side and prefer the mermaid style but since it's a one time wedding I want to try and see how a ball gown style will look as this is the only time I can wear a fairy tale dress..... I'm so anxious, stressed and worried but at the same time excited.....online gowns are. a Hit and Miss..... But I have 7 months to go so will research for another month. Before I finalize. Honestly this web post has really helped me a lot as there are zillions of options online and everything seems nice but when you read the review you have to start all over. The reviews of other brides, the post experience of whT they went through has been quite helpful. Keeping my eye on these posts so that I can narrow down on my 4 options... Cheers !

I was researching earlier and I started to narrow down my options too. I was torn between Gianinarbridal , duosheng ,Jasmines bridal also. After talking with the said makers I have decided to go with Jasmine's. Reasons were: Gianinar was getting some disturbing reviews. Duosheng prices are good but I didn't like that there was no upgrade in material only dressmaker experience. I also wasn't overly impressed by the material samples they sent me. However, they did show me impressive pics of their completed work.  I also concidered Dressilyme but they refused to concider to make my dress because they didn't feel that they could make it well enough. Points for honesty at least.

I plan to order my dress from Jasmine's. Yes they are pricier but I have yet to hear a bad review. Their communication was very detailed and overall fantastic. I'm just waiting a little longer before ordering because I have lots of time and I'm dieting.

This is the dress that I am having made. Jasmine couture 2012 collection. ( In ivory/black like the picture )
