I ordered from Jeff Liu- Natasha by Maggie Sottero

and from Dressilyme- with a white sash instead of black.

I am currently praying since I saw on another brides page that she had trouble with her lace dress, while another was happy about her entire experience. I realize I did a risky thing by purchasing dresses from overseas, however I have an excuse. In the country I currently live its the custom to rent instead of purchase. Its a tricky industry and I felt it would be best for me to look for other options.

Anyone else with experience from these two sellers?

I purchased a knock-off wedding dress that was shipped from China. I had fallen in love with an Oleg Cassini dress at Davidâ€s Bridal. I have not had good experiences at Davidâ€s Bridal and wanted to save money so I ordered the knock-off at StopDress.com. Before I purchased it, I had contacted customer service at StopDress to ask what the difference is between the knock-off dress and the designerâ€s dress (they can't match 100%). The reply I recieved was that the shape of the beading and flower attached to the dress would be slightly different. I can live that as it was more the soft ethereal feel of the gown I had fallen for and I would be fine with a slight change in the embellishment. I sent in my order and within 3 weeks, I received my dress.

It arrived in a small plastic mailing pouch. I was nervous as first wondering how they squeezed a wedding dress into that tiny pouch, but was pleased to discover the dress expanded when opened. It was inside-out in the packaging so I noticed right away as I pulled it out that the interior stitching was excellent. I turned the dress right-side out and was pleased with the structure and design. It was a really well made dress and the fit was absolutely perfect (I had sent my measurements). However, I was disappointed with the exterior fabric. The designerâ€s dress was covered in layers of soft, subtle tulle but the knock had been created in shiny organza. This was disappointing to me! I was also not too happy to discover they had replace beading with silver sequins; nothing against sequins, but they belong on dance costumes, not wedding dresses. I contacted the company right away with my complaints and was given the run around (I attached a dialog I had with a representative at the company).

In the end, I did not keep the knock-off dress and instead purchased the designerâ€s dress. I did sell the knock-off to a bride who loved the dress and had all of my money returned. All in all, I would say you will most likely be very pleased with a knock-off dress if you donâ€t have preset expectations (e.g. know that it will not be the same as the designer dress you tried on, but it will be similar).

Blackkinu,

Keep us posted! Can't wait for some pics of the final products.

Tiny Tuna,

The Romona dress is made of dyed silk taffeta ( I think), the fabric retails at around $25/yard.  Actually, most silk fabrics retail at $15-$30 range, imported from China and India.

Usually, chinese dressmakers tend to make dress with polyester fabrics, if u are close to them and be extra nice...they may accept ur request and make it in silk.  They don't wanna a naggy bride, and get stuck with a silk dress and a loss.

I didn't request silk or taffeta :( They already started making my dress nearly a month ago and it should be due for arrival in about 2 weeks.

With the first dress it will be satin, lace, and beading as well.

Am I due for a disaster? I have been kind and showed them the utmost respect. I understand how hard they are working to complete my dress on time. I am just praying that I didn't make mistakes with my request. I suppose I assumed they would choose great fabric to represent their items.

Anything I can do?

Blackkinu,

don't worry too much, your dresses are pretty common ones.  They will use synthetic materials, u will look great!

the thing about silk is it is expensive, and it tends to get yellowed....and eaten by bugs.

Therefore, I didn't order mine in silk, because I tend to try my dress on once every month and I live in a house with a lot of woods around.

I ordered a rep of Priscilla of Boston's Maeve dress from Jeff Liu last Monday after about two weeks of chatting about what I would like/measurements/fabrics etc. However, once I paid him he told me that he WILL NOT be able to send out a photograph of my dress before it leaves him as the factory is too busy. He also said that he'd include an underskirt in my price, but now said that I have to pay him extra. I relayed all of these requirements to him in the confirming email before the payment and now he's taking it back. At the same time, I don't want to upset him and end up with a rubbish dress :(      Should I just wait it out and see what turns up? (est. arrival 20th March).

Also I asked this many times before I ordered and he assured me he would (just to check there's no squint necklines or major flaws), but now he's telling me different.

Should I be worried about this? I feel pretty nervous.

I was also going to order another (more fitted) dress for the reception. I was thinking of ordering the Sottero Adorae Louise, which is the Adorae with a v neck and straps as it would be a complete contrast, but I don't want the beading on it. http://www.sotteroandmidgley.com/dress.aspx?style=JSM1379

Do you think it would look better (classier?) with Matte satin other than shiny?

I now don't want to give jeff any more money for another dress after the way he has acted regarding my current order. Who else would you recommend? I have been chatting with babyonline for the past few days. Do you think they will be able to make it well? I am not expecting 100% rep and I haven't tried on the original. But trying on dresses so far I have found that most styles suit me as I'm pretty tall (5 ft 10) and (according to a bridal store) a "proportional" for bridal dresses (whatever that means) - I'm 35-23-36

I just received word from Jeff Liu that my other dress is also ready! I can't believe it. They are both about 2 weeks earlier than promised. I should have both within 7 days. I still don't have images of the Jeff Liu dress but I am praying all goes well.

So far I would recommend Dressilyme to anyone! They have been excellent with their customer service, skill, English everything! I couldn't be happier with them. One more dress to go guys!!!! Then both of my weddings will be complete!
