Can someone PLEASE tell me the name for this type of skirt? I know I've seen it called something before, but for the life of me.....I'd love to have a mermaid gown with this type of skirt. I'm thinking (from the looks of the photos on the David's site) that this is more of a fit and flare. Skirt looks like it starts too high on the thigh to be a true mermaid.

lol...knock-off knowledge?!  I think it is a fairly easy dress to make.  It is organza ruffles/layers/tiers, ok..the layering may be a bit different, because they don't have the original in front of them.

Are u going to use it as a TTD? If yes, it is a safe bet.  Seriously I never understand why some brides nagged and whined on the differences between the original and the duplicate when they use it for TTD.  Do they really think people would care about the details of a TTD dress?

If you are using it as the main dress/reception dress, make sure u get the right measurements, be specific on the extra things that u would like to add, and be nice to the reps (so they can follow-up closely with u).

Relationship is the key when u do biz with Chineses!  If you want something, ask them nicely, then they will be more willing to go extra miles to help u out.  Put urself in their shoes, if you earn $300/month, working long hours in front of a PC, serving anxious and naggy brides from abroad...

Yes, sometimes they are slow, sometimes, they don't understand what u are trying to say, sometimes, they try to sell u extra stuffs...and yes, sometimes the quality control is not that good...but hey..at 1/10 of the cost, relax and chill!

I would use it as my main dress. I have a tiny budget and my wedding is getting too close to go the bridal store route anyway. If it was my TTD dress I wouldn't care at all. Like you said, no one would be able to tell anyway.

I don't have any extras to add and have (on purpose) not tried on the original so I really don't have too high expectations....I think.... I'm pretty sure I can be nice too ;) I am very laid-back when it comes to my wedding. Probably as far from a bridezilla as you could get haha!

BroomJumpers, I don't know what it's called but I've found a couple of dresses that have that same design.

Maggie Sottero - Fantasia

Enzoani - Fabi

The picture above is one I took at David's Bridal of VW351011

They have two similar dresses there as well.

The Vera Wang that is similar to it is Diana.

I don't know if maybe the descriptions they have of the dresses on those sites might help. :)

Ladies,

I'm currently about to buy a dress from Babyonline.  What has been your experience from them? I've heard them mentioned several times here, but I'm getting so confused with who ordered what now.  Will you please tell me if you're happy with your dress? Thanks!

I read through the forum because I was interested in buying a dress from coral bridal.

I was really happy to come across so many other brides talking about similar websites and showing photos of their actual dresses and those from such stores abroad.   Myself I can sew and have been since 12, my mother's degree is in design so she taught me.    Glad to see a lot of brides that are really picky and looking well into the workman ship of the dresses, I too have tried to find realistic pictures.

Coral bridal from what I've seen looks quite nice, I did read up on monica bridal though here and tried to contact them just a short while ago with regard to a question.   Material to me is always an issue, since the design of my dress is a simple ball gown style (lots of fabric yes, but not much with regard to design or beading  - the embellishment I choose to do myself later)  I wanted to inquire about fabric.

Some said here that you can ask for silk satin, or duchess satin, that is what is used in most of the designer gowns of this style and look.   I contacted them via chat and asked, it was very difficult for them to understand me it seems, and also they quoted the dress at 120, but I asked them if they can give me a quote in the specific fabric (since I assumed they can get a hold of some) and even if it were to cost upwards of $500 I may consider it.

After half an hour of misunderstandings the person asked their manager and came back to say that the marker is short on this type of material and it was unachievable.

Has anyone purchased a dress made of this material and from where?    If I had a sewing machine and a place to get the fabric at a great price I'd make it myself.

Girl, you should never try on a dress that is way above your price range. This is a big no no.  Romona is like Vera Wang, it is not a Maggie or Angelo, it is super luxe to touch and wear.

Usually, you can get it as a sample or 2nd hand at  50% of the original tag price.

Ok, from what I see, the original dress is made with silk taffeta.  Therefore, a replica will not have the same texture, shine, feel and weight than the original dress. Silk is lighter, the shine is more subtle, and it is smoother than the synthetic fabric.

it is not hard to replicate, but it will look and feel different.  If you are mentally prepared, you can try to contact Monica Bridal or Babyonline to get a quote.  Monica Bridal has silk fabric upon request (at a premium cost).

What is this silk called?    My first impression of them was not good at all, and very confusing.    So they do have the silk available?
