6) Ok this one may sound a bit offensive, but brides who are above size 14.  China is still a developping country, obesity is still very rare.  Thus, for most of the chinese dressmakers, they have hard time to get the proportion right, because they never seen anyone in 14+ sizes.

1) When you are a vendor or insider, you should declare that you are one.

2) You can be very biased, because you own a bridal dress shop.

3) It is a bit unfair to blast the quality, since most of the dresses in your shop are made in China, but of course you can get a fat margin on them, and the dressmakers in China can't.

We're both away for work a lot, so it helps to have an understanding partner. So far this year we have only been at home together for two months! And yes, everything for the wedding will be completely paid for far in advance. It's just tough to plan together when we're apart And then I feel bad for occupying our short weekend visits with wedding stuff.

Bonnie, you've given me lots of helpful advice and that's what counts. Good for you getting the DIY invites done so soon. I'm trying to get ours finished so we can mail them out when I go home next weekend. And to add one more to your list: Bridezillas that aren't happy with anything or just have a negative expectation from the beginning.

Thx!  I hope you will be happy with your dress just like I do with mine.  Sometimes, I find myself a bit biased too.  However, it is just not fair that a bridal shop owner just came in and rant.  On the other hand, if she was to offer us nice discounts on the originals, then it is another story..hahaha

 

I am still working on the invites, trying to save some money.  After all, $7-$10 per invite is a bit too much, as people would just put it in a recycle bin after.  There will be so much of folding and trimming...but it is fun. 

 

At least, you are efficient with your planning when you know your time is limited.  I just procrastinate from time to time...heehee.

You are so right...I have a friend who is Asian and makes clothing...she says that they only have 3 sizes back home....and that it's complex with all of the sizing here!  Who knew!

Ok, ladies.  I received my dress from Monica Bridal yesterday.  It appears to be well-made and arrived with no smell.  It fits well, but as others have said, it is a bit too big and too long.  The lace-up back is pulled tight almost all the way in order for it to fit right.  I also noticed some small marks on it; haven't tried to clean them yet so not sure if they'll come out.  I'm sure they're so small that only I would notice them.  Also, it is going to require some alterations... I think the neckline would need to be lowered and I think the fabric that comes across the bust looks a little funny.  Also, I would need to make some changes to the skirt, but not sure exactly how to make it look like the inspiration dress...  My first impression was that I was a little underwhelmed with it, but of course it was still worth the $150 I paid for it even if I just end up using it for the trash the dress.  I don't know... the longer I have it the more it is growing on me

If you are getting alterations, a competent seamstress should be able to make the changes that you want at the same time

Karen, I think you just need to take it to a good seamstress for alterations.  It is hard to tell though standing on a white bed. Do you have your shoes yet? Maybe it won't be so long?
