I think it's also about what you want. I could not find anything I really liked, so I chose a custom made dress. Now I will have a made to fit dress and not an altered to fit dress. I also don't have to sacrifice any aspects to get what I want. I think most of us that ordered dresses from a China-based dress maker wanted something different and original.

yeah...Most of us wants smth unique, fitted and original.  If you want a nice replica, then you have to pay around $300-$400 to get nice materials like imported satins and taffetas, and $600+ for a silk dress.  For $100-$200, you can get a nice dress, but it won't be made with super nice materials like the original designer dress.  Of course, if you want an exact replica, you will be better off buying the original and pay the alter fees.  An original Maggie dress isn't that expensive anyway, plus you can always find Maggie dresses at sample sales.

However, can your guesst tell the difference between silk organza and synthetic organza (Maggie dresses aren't made of silk anyway)? NO! Do your guests care if your dress is really beautiful or not? NO!  Does the designer dress really make the bride 3 times more beautiful? nope (disagree? go watch Say Yes to the Dress, my FI and I laugh our a$$ off every time we watch that show on TLC).

I think it is just a personal choice on how to spend our money, I like to spend on real blings that I can wear everyday instead of a few hours or just invest in the market to make more money to buy more blings...LOL.

I completely agree with what you said, Prettypigpig - I definitely don't want to pay the $2450 + tax for the Enzoani dress (Esme) I have fallen in love with.... but my worry is that a knock off dress will lack the boning and structure that the Enzoani has, which is why I love the designer dress so much...

Does anyone have experience with having a knock off made when the original had lots of boning and structure? How did the knock off compare?

Agree with Prettypigpig.  But I actually tried both the original and the replica and there is very little difference in the quality.

Goodtoglow.  Have a look at my pics from my profile - album is called final dress.  I bought it from storeofdress.com and it is amazing. Lots of boning, amazing fabric etc.  The pics don't even do it justice, my girlfriend that was with me when I tried the original couldn't even notice the diference.  Like prettypigpig says its more you than other people that notice these things.

Goodtoglow,

Topspartner usually put a lot of boning (like 16 or 17 of them) in their dresses, but they don't do Enzoani ones.  I am ordering one for my bestfriend from babyonline on dhgate, a dress usually without bonings, but I request to add extra bones because my friend is errr..size 14 and very fat in the middle, I will post the pics once I receive it.

I ordered my dress from babyonline on dhgate and just got notice that my dress has shipped. I will post pics as soon as I get it. I am so nervous and excited! I did try on the Pronovias original at a bridal shop so I will let you know the difference although the sample size was WAY too big and may be difficult to compare.

So glad I found this forum and topic!

I have been looking at buying dresses overseas for awhile now but like the majority was hesitant because of the quality issues I have heard about.

I am thinking I will try a few vendors providing their prices + shipping are reasonable.

Am loving a couple of maggie sottero styles at the moment (fiorella and hunter) so might get one of each made.

I have received prices from a couple of stores so far, but will order a fabric sample and colour chart before placing an order.

Will keep you posted :)
