You still have plenty of time! I am getting married in July 2011, so I am way way in advanced.  I would recommend to order the dress 6 months in advanced, that give time for the dressmaker to make the dress without rushing, and plenty of time for alternations (if it is required).  You don't to leave it as a last minute thing and create unnecessary stress.
You can order ur dress with lace up back, that will give more room for future weight gain/loss.

I was just talking with my sister and she said the same thing...she told me not to look at anymore and that we would go to the stores to look and try on... You're so right...how far in advance did you order/get your dress...we're not getting married until August of next year so there's time to lose weight and what ever else...?

Michelle,

It is your day (regardless if it is ur first marriage or not) to celebrate that you've found your other half, so just pick whatever you feel like to wear.  My tulle + lace cathedral train dress isn't really ideal for a beach wedding neither, but hey..I like itcheesy.gif
There are plenty of Pronovias/LaSposa and Maggie dresses that fit a destination wedding on the beach.  However, if your heart wants a puffy princess dress, then go with a puffy dress.  I've seen brides with fat puffy dress on a beach, so I don't think it is that inappropriate.

I'd listen to PrettyPigPig.  This girl knows what she's talking about :).  I order my second dress from Monica Bridal and am just waiting for confirmation they have received payment.  They have been absolutely fantastic to deal with.  I found a second dress in a magazine, emailed the photo and like a few other girls on the forum, they added it to their dress factory for me and have agreed to make it.

and it's dress 11055 (I think)

It is the dress I'll use for our reception.  I think it will be great for dancing and a great opportunity to show off some SEXY shoes!  The only change I will make is to make the neckline sweetheart.  Since I've decided on a Mexico wedding today, the dress definitely fits the theme.

$140.00

LOL! thx Ginger.  Make sure to tell them to add more bones to the bodice because you have curvy body ( I am so jealous)!  I have to say the rep at Monica Bridal is fantastic in client service, I hope I can get that kind of service here.

Hahaha Prettypigpig,

I hadn't even thought of the extra bone for the "bodice" area.  I emailed them this morning to advise of my curviness.  Seems DHGate is having a small issue processing the order.  I suspect because I set up a new PayPal account to withdraw from my checking account.  Seems as though DHGate is not aware of how long it takes for customers to set up the paypal account because everyday I get an email asking me to make a payment.   I keep responding, advising that I made the payment and that I have no control over how long it takes paypal to remove it.  This being a long weekend, I'm thinking I'll get a few more emails till Tuesday (nex banking day)  Small price to pay.  I've informed Monica Bridal and she says "no problem, we'll wait".

Rather than buying knock offs from China, have you ladies thought about just purchasing the designer dress you want second hand?

Don't get me wrong, the knock off dresses posted on here are beautiful, but in my opinion you can tell the difference between the original designer dress and the knock off.

When it comes to clothes a lot of people say your paying for the label, which is true to a certain extent, but you're also paying for the quality of workmanship and fabrics.

I've just been trauling the internet and I've found second hand Maggie Sottero dresses listed as £400 or nearest offer. That means you could probably get it for about £300 which is what some ladies have paid for the knock offs.

If you just type second hand wedding dresses in google loads of sites come up. This way you can try the actual dress on if the seller lives near you. Or you can try the exact same dress on in the shop before you buy it from the seller so you'll know exactly how it will be.

Beca,

First, chinese are supertitious, and older generation folks think wearing a second hand wedding dress from unknown/unrelated people may bring bad luck.  However, rent a dress or selling the dress after the wedding to another person is ok.cheesy.gif

My friend who lives in San Francisco sold her Enzoani dress for $1000 to another local bride before she realized that her wedding pics were really bad, and she had no dress to reshoot the pics.  My view is if you can see and try the actual dress, then maybe a second hand dress is ok, assume the cleaning cost and the alter cost are minimum.  Cleaning is at least $100 USD, alternation is $100 and up as well.  So $650+$200 and up..it is almost the price of a brand new Maggie Sottero (Designed in USA, Made in China by $2 USD per day factory workers)

£400 is around $650 USD (used to be around $800 USD, but thx to UK's messy finance, now the exchange rate is much better), at this price, you can find a nice sample dress in local bridal shops.  A lot of brides got their Maggie dress at a sample sale, and usually the shop is willing to clean it for free and alter it at a reasonable price.  This way brides can get a new dress, cleaned, altered at a very reasonable price and peace of mind.

Or, with $650USD, a bride can buy 3-6 dresses from China, and wear one for the ceremony, one for the reception, one for TTD, one for AHR and the rest in Halloween, no need to alter because it is custom made size, and no need to clean because it will cost more to clean it than to buy a new one.

My situation is different than other ladies here I suppose.  I have bought an original, Pronovias by Atelier Diagnonal off the rack and on sale for 699.00 but I wanted a second dress for our reception and for photos.  I didn't want the dress to be the same as my ceremony dinner dress.  I figure why spend all that money for a designer dress for one a few hours.  I just cannot justify it.  I saw photos of PrettyPig's dress and it looked to be very well made.  Never mind the input she had in making it her own vision.  The same with mine.  I picked one and for 140 dollars I got to change it to suit my tastes.  The original I bought requires a some adjustments.  ie removal of straps shaping it to be somewhat of a mermaid, etc etc.  This way I get it made exactly the way I want from the onset.  For some, I'm sure they don't have the budget to spend thousands of dollars on a their dream dress and this is a way to get close to it.  So why not go for the knockoffs.  It's no different than me hiring a seamstress and bastardizing different elements of three or four dresses.  Well I guess there'd be a huge difference in price. I suppose it is the luck of the draw with the end product.  I did my homework and I'm confident in Monica Bridals work.
