Is this a possibility?/No outside photographers at Riu Palace

Hi everyone,

I should check with the resorts but you girls are so knowledgeable I thought I would post here first.

Would it be possible to stay at the Riu Palace, and be married at Dreams? I am not sure of the distance between the 2 places and if it'd be more of a hassle than anything else.

These are my two choices for resorts at this point and I just read on another forum (My Riu Wedding > Home) that the Riu does not allow outside photographers. We are planning on bringing a photographer from Canada. Have any of you had any experiences with the Riu and external vendors?

Things keep pointing to Dreams telling me it's the one!!! It's just that it's more expensive than we'd like our guests to have to spend just to get there. I have looked up prices for travel for July 2009 (a year from our wedding date) and it's about $2300 per person out of Toronto. Is it possible to negotiate rates with the hotel and work out a better deal than that? I am currently looking for a travel agent that specializes in DWs but so far no luck. I didn't hear back from any of the agents on this site.

Thanks in advance for any info you can help out with!

Ange

Hi Ange

The last time I worked with Riu, the bride was able to choose an outside vendor as long as a $100.00 USD day pass was paid, but rules change, you know? anyways, Mango Productions, the guys that have the exckusive at Riu are pretty good, I've worked with them before and they're really really good.

If you don't have a problem with the day pass you can bring your own photographer but if you do, you shouldn't worry that much, Jerome and company take some nice pictures too.

I live and photograph weddings here in Cabo. I continue to photograph weddings at both Rui Palace and Santa Fe, one as recently as last Wednesday at the Palace. The 'vendor fee' is $100 at the Palace and $75 at the Santa Fe. To make it easier for couples booking non-resort photographers I pay half the fee and look after all the arranging for you.

It´s a shame, you as a customer of such resorts, on top of it, you cannot have your own vendors unless you agree to pay more. Plus the photograhpy is the one thing you will have for the years to come, from that special day.

It should be just the way you want it, so please don´t let the resorts do this to you. They should be instead concerned about providing a top notch service. After all it´s not everyday you get married.

yes, this is true. i'm getting married at the club RIU in Negril, jamaica in August. i was thinking of bringing a photographer from home but that didnt work out. we decided to hire an outside photgrapher who lives in Jamaica and all we have to do is pay for the day pass. i guess each RIU resort is different becasue i am paying $80 for the day pass.
