Tips for picking the day of the week for a DW?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm looking to get married in April 2010. How does it work for DWs as far as picking the day. Since it's a vacation for the guests I'm assuming it doesn't have to be on the weekend. But I'm thinking it would be more convenient for guests if I pick a day at the end of the week, maybe Thurs or Fri. Any advice? Do those days usually get booked fast?

Thanks,

V

V,

We are getting married on a Thursday. I don't really think it matters on the day. We planned a Tuesday-Saturday trip for our guest and the wedding will be on Thursday. We figured that most guest would be staying 5 days 4 nights. So we thought of that period when picking our wedding day.

I don't know how fast dates book at all hotels but my TA said as soon as we pick a date to reserve it.

Welcome V! I think there is several factors involved in picking the day! The first usually is whether or not you are legally getting married at you destination and if there is certain requierments to get married such as how many days you must be at the resort prior to your marriage. Next I think the days you will be traveling also need to be taken into consideration. I know for us it was a significant price difference in airfair to travel on some days and not others. When we were planning on having guest we also took into consideration whether or not people would be staying a whole week or less and what would be the most affordable for everyone. But I wouldn't get too caught up in what day it is as long as all the legal requirements are met that is all that matters right! In the end we decide to elope and we are gettign married on a Thursday due to the legal requirement and when we will be arriving to the resort.

Legally you have to be in DR for at least 3 days before you can be married. Some resorts however, request that you be there at least 5 days before they will allow you to be married. That was the case with our resort, but as they were already booked we're getting married on the 4th day after we arrive :)

We are getting married in Cuba which has a 3 day residency requirement (they do not, however, have to be business days there) and the notary at our resort does not work weekends, so we are officially getting married on the Friday (legal part) and our WC is performing our ceremony (symbolic) on the Saturday.

The thing that I thought about was that some people would not be able to take too much time off of work so we are getting married on a Saturday that way if people only wanted to come for a long weekend it wouldn't be a problem. Also in Jamaica you must be there 2 full buisness days before you can get married

We chose a Monday for the wedding. That way, if our guests don't have a lot of vacation days, they can come to DR on Fri or Sat and leave on Tues if they need to. Also, we are staying Fri-Fri and this way we can just relax for several days before we have to leave!
