I think it depends on the size of the gap. I've seen a "comfortable" gap, and then I've seen the Grand Canyon. Imagine that, the Grand Canyon, right there between your best friends and your dress. Nuts!

I had a strapless bridesmaid dress and it had a gap and it SUCKED! I hated it, it looked ridiculous, I wanted to go back to the seamstress and tell her she made it too big, but it was my own fault for not trying in on when I picked it up after alterations.

My dress has a corset back and I plan on telling whoever is lacing it to pull it tight, not so tight that I have back fat, but tight enough that the top is against my chest and not hanging out.

I think it was a photographer I was talking to who said she hated when girls wore strapless dresses that were too big up top. She said you ended up getting a lot of "thumb hooker" pictures (where the girl is hitching up her dress with her thumbs). I think you definitely want it snug up top.

I had a gap but I never had a problem with it slipping at all...my seamstress thought that if she took it in anymore I'd end up spilling out over top and I think she was totally right.

The only thing I didn't like is that it was really noticeable in a couple pictures...but most of them were OK!

Here is my dress, I had it done very snug and I also have no boobs what so ever so they need to give me a bustier and sew cups into it and then they tightened a lot in the back....but I go for my last dress fitting when I fly back home next week so I might need more alterations

but I would definately say have it tightened otherwise yo will be very uncomfortable and it wont give you the shape that you want

Jessica what is max's fashion tape? I'm assuming double sided tape - but is it strong enough to hold up a gown and if so, is it "sweatproof"? Where do you find it?

I got my dress this weekend and already I'm hiking it up like crazy, which is driving me crazy. I LOVE the idea of getting a seamstress to put in an elastic in the top. (Thank you Christa!) I want it super snug so there's not any shots of me pulling it up.
