Filing Federal Taxes, Married-style!

I think you really need to take the time and run the numbers. We (are already legally married) but the best thing for us (according to our accountant) for being in Montana was to file separately on the same form for state and allow him to claim our child cause he makes much much more, and then for federal to file jointly. I have never used an accountant before this year, but I now recommend it after using one. We really only went to one cause we inherited ALOT of money and didn't really know what to do for taxes w/ it. Now that we've seen an accountant, I really recommend it, they help greatly and really work to get you the best outcome!

Great question. I think we are going to see an accountant this year and get a comparison to find out what will maximize our return.

This is not about filing taxes, more of a rant...

So I got a tiny $50 per week raise for the first quarter. I always claim 0. Why from my $50 raise did I only earn an extra $1.37? That is a lot of f-ing tax!

We have someone file our taxes for us every year so we are just going to ask him which would be the best option. We were legally married in July, but never changed any of our tax forms and we both claim 0. I know my friends that got married said they all got more money back after getting married, but they also got married and bought houses so I'm not sure which of the two resulted in more of a return or the combination. We don't own anything yet so we'll see, but we are hoping for a fat refund this year.
