My Moms Wedding Band.

Recommended Posts

:) so my mom and i were ripping through her old jewelery box to get rid of junk and she came across her wedding band (hasnt fit her in years) i tried it on and it fits like a glove and looks just perfect with my engagment ring. The problem is.. Its yellow gold and my Engagment ring is White gold.

She said i could get it plated or dipped to match. Has anyone ever tried this with any rings? Does it look good, or stay on for a long time? I would love to have my moms ring but it does look awfully silly two toned.

white gold is actually rhodium plated yellow gold. you will find over time with your engagement ring you will probably have to re-rhodium plate it once every 1-2 years (depending on wear, etc.) That is so special your moms ring works with yours though! I wanted to use the diamond my dad gave my mom (they are divorced) but she didn't want to give it up yet:-(.

Well that makes my life so much easier! haha Thank you :) i was wondering why my sister said she had to get hers done every so often.

My mom had to think about it for a little while, she mustve talked to my sister who im assuming told her that it would eventually turn back the way it originally was. Or i dont think she wouldve given it up either. Even though it hasnt fit her in about 15 years. Same goes for my dad.

Maybe she'll realize just how special it would be to have her daughter wear her diamond eventually. I guess it would be a hard thing to let go of. but she should know that it would be in very appreciative hands <3

I have a diamond in my e ring from grandmother and I have diamonds in my band from my moms ring (my father passed 3 years ago). It means alot to me.

I have also been married before and I am keeping that ring for my daughter. It has no meaning to me, but it will to her.

White gold is not just yellow gold that has been rhodium plated. It is an alloy of yellow gold with a whiter metal like nickel or palladium. White gold does still have a yellow tinge to it which is why it needs to be rhodium plated. Your mom's yellow gold ring that's been rhodium plated will probably turn more yellow than your e-ring as time goes on, but re-dipping them more often should take care of that. I think it's such a great thing to wear your mom's wedding ring!

That's a great idea! I would def talk to a jeweler though. There is one on the board, if you want to PM her - lilpaisley. She was very helpful to me when I had some jewelry questions before.

My mom had my Nana's wedding band re-shaped and gave it to me at my wedding. It's really cool to have that.
