Hyatt Key West or other KW wedding ideas?

BTW,

Eileen, I remember exchanging emails with you not too long ago. I thought you were very professional and helpful. I received your information from Ocean Key Resort because the size of my wedding party was on the smaller end (under 40) and not large enough for OKR. But I think we are actually going to hit the 40 mark! Good luck with your business and I appreciate the honesty and willingness to share information about the Key West area. It's really hard to find a forum with information about KW, and there are not too many KW brides here.

I received the following information from Ocean Key Resort & Spa in Key West. This location looks amazing. Here is the info:

Ocean Key Resort & Spa is the only Four Star, Four Diamond resort on the island and truly is a quintessential Key West venue. Our location sets us apart from other wedding venues in town. We are located at Zero Duval Street in the heart of Old Town Key West. We sit right on the Gulf waters, with the best views of Sunset on the island. Our ceremony venue has all the feel of being present on a beach, though without the mess of the sand. You have beautiful blue, green waters and ocean breezes and an intimate space for your and your guests to enjoy this important element of the day. The reception is located on our Sunset Pier, a 200 ft finger pier that plunges out over the gulf. We do require that you rent a tent for your event (www.keywestpartyrentals.com ). Beyond our superior location for your event itself, our location also lends itself to continuing the party into the evening. We are a block away from the best bars on the island that stay open until 4am, so those guests that wish to continue the evening can easily walk to the next destination and not worry about transportation.

In regards to menu, Our Executive Chef from our four star restaurant, Hot Tin Roof, is the same chef that will be executing your event. This means that the quality, presentation and flavors from this awarded restaurant translate to your event. This also means we have the ability to customize to your vision

I'm getting married at the Westin in Key West in a couple weeks =) and have actually been working with Julie at SimplyYouWeddings as my wedding coordinator. She has been great to work with. We are getting married during a cruise though, so only in Key West for the day. I plan to post a review after the wedding, but would be happy to answer any questions about planning it so far.

We're most likely doing Ocean Key Resort, seems like a really great deal. It all depends on if you want a ceremony on the beach, since they only have the pier. The view looks amazing though. We're doing a cruise to Key West and Cozumel, so this is right next to the port, which saves on transportation costs. Comparing Ocean Key Resort with the Hyatt, Ocean Key doesn't have as much of a wedding coordinator, so you may to hire more outside vendors (wedding planner, tent, linens), but I'm not sure what the Hyatt includes.

Also, we found this Key West Webcam, which was really helpful in deciding our location:

Hello,

I have just started planning for my Florida Keys wedding in August 2010. I feel completely lost and overwhelmed. I am hoping you ladies will have some advice for me. I noticed that some of these posts are older but maybe you can still help!

My vision is to have a beach wedding or ocean view venue. I am keeping it very small which means about 20 people. I don't want anything fancy or over the top. Simple and fun. I have even looked into staying someplace other than Key West...possibly Islamorada for a less touristy feel. I have never been to the Keys so I have no idea what to expect. Any advice is much appreciated. I would like to stay somewhere on the water but my budget is around 10k. This would include ceremony, small reception (maybe) and hotel accomodations for myself and FI.

I would definitely recommend staying in Key West, its a bit more $, but in my opinion, it's hands down a much more relaxing experience! I used to live in FL and spent some time in the keys, we always enjoyed our trips more when we stayed in the "city" everything is withing walking distance then!

We too are planning our wedding in Key West, but not until 2011. I was originally planning a wedding ceremony/reception (not lodging) budget of $6500 for 40 guests, including taxes, fees, site rental, tables, chairs, food... but i'm having a hard time finding anything in that budget range... I hate to go more... but I may have to... any ideas of reasonably priced options?? other out of the box ideas?? we thought about renting a house and hosting there, but thats a lot of people to have in one house for a reception! plus i want a little less stress...

I was starting to think that no one responded to any of these posts anymore. I know there aren't many of us on here getting married in KW, but I can use all the help I can get :-)

I think have narrowed it down to a few ideas but I am hoping someone on here can give me feedback. I have really fallen in LOVE with the Reach Resort and the gazebo/pier they have over the water. Since Im getting married in August I thought having a shaded area for the ceremony would be nice. They also have a beach area if I choose to do that. The only concern I have is the price. I know that it will cost more than if I go with a company like Weddings to Go! or EZ Weddings in Paradise. THe problem I have with going with an "all-in-one" company is that I won't be able to use the photographer I want and Im afraid that doing it on a public beach will mean that there are tons of other people around during the ceremony. If anyone has chosen to go with one of these companies and has been really impressed (or unimpressed) please let me know. ALSO, if anyone has any info about weddings at the Reach Resort please let me know about that too.
