Oh, that is a really cool idea. It's nice too because you can keep it forever! I wonder if my FI and I should practice so we don't get something ugly!

So this maybe a stupid question...did all of you use colored sand? For some reason the colored sand just doesn't appeal to me. I think it's because my mom always made me do sand art projects and it reminds me of that. Based on our vows, I think we might be able to just use beach sand.

Here's that section of our vows (they're still in the works)

Separation of these grains of sand

Cannot be done by any hands;

They can never go back from whence they came-

And so your lives will be the same-

From this moment on you both will be

As inseparable as this sand you see!

What do you think?

I think thats a cute poem. But I think of it more along the lines of how well my Mexican Officiant will be able to say the words. Just think in your head about how they would say the word "whence" or "inseperable." I laughed a little to myself...but then again, their English may be extremely proficient. I'd go with it, but have a backup plan just in case their accent is too thick. Also, try to hook up with them before the wedding and have them rehearse it to you.

Based on what I have seen and all the customs info I have read online, that was a bogus statement, but just wanted to make sure.
We were able to carry on our sand ceremony kit, sand and shells on our way to Mexico, but they would not let us carry it on on the way home. We had to check it in our luggage. We had our guests pour little shells at the bottom of the vase prior to the sand ceremony and we had a light tan and darker tan color sand. The sand got mixed up on the way home, but it still looks OK and nothing happened to the glass vase it was in. We just had to tape the top since the glass topper wouldn't fit in the box with it on the vase.

Sounds great to me. I think colored sand is pretty because I was thinking about using my wedding colors. But I'm also thinking about our home decor. But my home colors won't be the same forever. So now that I've thought about neutral sounds good.embarrest.gif

Also, you can do a sand ceremony frame. You can include a picture in the frame; you get the ones with multiple panes of glass and do it yourself with some sealant. Then, just seal it shut when you get back home. I know a lot of girls who bought the frame from Kohls, and I think Target had one too - they worked fine.

I've found this to be really helpful:

Journey to the Aisle and Beyond: Sand ceremony trial

There are a lot of options out there. Just google sand ceremony frames and see what you get. I know there are people who make them from whatever style wood you'd like them too, ranging from regular oak to dark woods, to orange and purple woods.

Hope that helps!
