I don't want to rain on anyones parade but I was just in Playa del Carmen in October 2008 and I wanted to buy a set of maracas for my nephew. The more traditional ones with the red and green stripes on them were about $10US each. We found one place on 5th Ave that had some cheaper looking ones that were different colours for only a few dollars but they looked like they were only worth a few dollars. I was really surprised at how expensive they were. So I guess this all depends on how much you were willing to spend on something like this. You could possibly find something cheaper off of 5th Ave too as we found that area to be abit more expensive in general. Sorry for being such a downer. I hope you can find something that works for you.
