Virginia Beach Recs

Virgina Beach is on our list of possible vacation spots to hit this year. I have never been there and neither has Brian so we are totally at a loss. Does anyone have an recs on what to do in the area, nice hotels (either right on the beach or close by), or any suggestions for the surrounding area?

I grew up there, so unforunately have never stayed at any of the hotels. Do you want to stay along the beach? I have heard good things about the Residence Inn and Turtle Cay Resort. There are lots of shops, nightclubs, and restaurants on "the strip" that runs along the street next to the boardwalk.
