Wedding Favors - Hand Painted Maracas

Recommended Posts

I'm so glad I found this thread! I ordered these maracas...

Genuine Maracas - PartyMart: party supplies

One pair for each person. First of all, they are huge! A really great size. But, they are VERY poorly painted. I was going to send them all back, but now I think I might paint them...thanks for giving me a great idea gals!! I'm not that crafty though - I might need to make a stencil or something...

And I really like the idea of putting each person's name on their maracas!!

I was planning on ordering those...they're definitely a great price! But yea, I can tell the paint quality is poor. I don't know if you plan on only painting the top portion like they did...word of advice, tape up the handle with blue painters tape, prime it. Stick them into a chunk of styrofoam by the handle to dry. Paint them in your wedding color holding it again. Stick back into styrofoam to dry. Last step would be to stencil a design or your names or date...whatever you want to personalize them. After that, I would give it a nice coat of poly to protect it all and make them nice and glossy and pro looking! Good luck and post pics!!! You don't have to be super crafty to accomplish this!

Do they make a nice sound when shaken? That's pretty important. Oh, and are they wood? I just posted on how to paint them assuming they're wood, haha. If they're plastic, I would use paint that is specially made for plastic products. I know lots of people love spray paint and work well with it, but I'm a fan of a foam brush. I wonder if dunking it into a can of paint like you would a chocolate covered strawberry would work, LOL!!!!

I'm back from our wedding...it was AMAZING! We ended up purchasing our maracas in Mexico! There were shops right in our resort...$2 for a pair (2). We only had 24 guests so we spent less than $50. They were all white with various designs. We attached a tag that said "Shake for a Kiss". Our guests loved them and shook them all night! They were a great hit and made for a nice souvenir. I suggest not bringing them from home and buying them in Mexico...they're everywhere in every color imaginable!

Thanks for the information. I really did not want to carry anything more down with us.
