All of our guests said it was the best wedding they had ever been to! Thanks to Jackie, Claudia, Frankin and all the other A y J staff - the service was impeccable. The setting for the ceremony was unbelievable and our dinner was held under the grape tree and was simply magical. The food and cake were delicious. We had the most amazing band play at our reception that I would HIGHLY recommend - they are called LaFeMi (myspace.com/lafemimusica) and we booked them (as well as some drummers for rehearsal dinner through Elizabeth from Cabana Copal ([email protected]).

Also, I wanted to let everyone know that we had an amazing (and very reasonably priced) rehearsal dinner the night before at Cabana Copal/ Bar Tun Tun. We booked everything through Maria Lidia ([email protected]) and we could not have been happier with the presentation, food and ambience.

I have tried to attach some photos here so I hope it works. If anyone has any other questions, I would be happy to answer them.
Hi Kristen ~

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I am so glad to hear that everything went so well for you on your special day. I was not able to view your photos. Can you try posting again when you have some free time? I was recently (02/21/09) at AyJ for my taste testing and loved the food. We are also having our ceremony under the grape trees and was wondering if there is enough lighting for dancing or did your DJ supply that? Also, when my FI and I were at AyJ a few weeks ago, the ceremony area under the palm tree was pretty much washed away from erosion. Did you have your ceremony in front of the palm tree? Who was your officiant and were you happy with the ceremony? Also, who did your hair and makeup? Sorry for all of the questions.

Hi Sarah ~

I hope you're planning in going well. I haven't been on the forum much lately and just noticed your post for the lanterns and sand boxes. If I read correctly, you are also using Vanessa Jaimes for your florist. From what Jackie told me a few weeks ago during our 2nd site visit, Vanessa has sandboxes for the escort cards and also laterns for the grape trees. I'm not sure what she charges, but I'm going to ask since I too plan on using them.

If I find out anything soon, I'll let you know.

Congrats kristen!! I can't see the.pics either do you have a link to them or have them posted somewhere else.

Mrsscottyb- what dishes did you try?

I'm so excited everyone's weddings are getting close. I can't wait to see all the pics.

Is there anyone on here that isn't using vanessa as their florist or that isn't having a huppa? I was wondering what you are doing at the end of the aisle. I feel like there needs to be something to walk to besides my fiance standing in the sun.

Hello soon-to-be-brides! Married life is fantastic although we are still dreaming of our most amazing experience in Tulum. The best advice I have is to not be stressed out and enjoy every second of it! To answer a few questions:

Cermony - we had our ceremony under a huppa right in front of the palm tree and it was perfect! Nacho Alcocer, who Jackie recommended, was our oficiant and he was amazing! We paid for the bamboo runner which I thought was a nice touch.

Dancing/Lighting/Music - although we ate under the grape tree, which was beautiful, we had our band set up under a small little palapa right by the water and we paid for a wooden dance floor ($200) which I recommend. We had tiki torches and luminarias and we had enough light. The whole set-up worked really well. Also, we used our Ipod (no DJ) in between live music and had one of the guys from Ana y Jose in charge of it and it worked out great.

Hair/Makeup - i did my own makeup and had my sister help me with my hair. One caution: it is pretty windy there on the beach so if you are not going to wear your hair up, I would recommend a pretty simple, flowing style. Just know that unless you have tons of hairspray, it will get messed up (but hey, you are at the beach and it ends up looking sexy wink.gif)

Food/drinks - once again, I cannot say enough about how amazing the food was. We had the veracruz fish and chickep with the tortilla soup (amazing) and salad and had the tres leches cake for our wedding cake. Also, instead of paying $50/bottle corkage fee for champagne, we did a tequila toast and it worked out well.

Here is a link to a sample of some of our pictures from the rehearsal dinner and wedding: Picasa Web Albums - josh - Destination W....

Hope this helps and hope everyone has has a fantastic experience!

Hello Ladies

I was married Saturday and everything was amazing! Claudia took care of everything. Once we arrived in Tulum, we were stress free.

I'll post some photos over the weekend.

I'll do my best to answer some of the below questions.

We had our rehearsal dinner at Zamas. Susan was amazing.

We had cocktail hour on the beach, and dinner under the main palapla. We hired a mexican cover band "vertigo" I would highly recommend them for the wedding as well. Everyone wondered how I would top off the wedding night after the rehearsal dinner.

The food, music, atmosphere and drinks were perfect. The price was reasonable as well. It's a very rustic mexican place.

For the wedding, Jackie arranged for nail and hair. I would suggest to do your own nails, it only lasted 2 days.

The hair was good, be specific though. As mentioned below, it's very windy on the beach.

We had the wedding at the beach club. The ceremony in front of the tree on the beach, cocktail hour under the grape tree and dinner and dancing in the main area.

Jackie said it would be $4k to have the beach club private, but when we met with her, she said she would close the entire place down.

We had the place to ourselves with no fee. I guess somethings are better left unsaid.

I didn't feel we needed an arch during the ceremony since we were in front of the trees. The beach has eroded some but it's still beautiful.

There is a rope holding up a tree, ask them to take it down and they will for the ceremony. We also had them cover the sandbags with white linens.

We had our own officiant and our friend played the guitar for the ceremony.

We had our ipod play for the first part of the cocktail hour, and the mariachi played for the second. Well worth the money, they were great.

DJ Bob played for the dancing part. He is very accomodating. I would be specific on music though.

The food and cake were delicious. We had the steak and salmon.

Overall, the day was perfect. I wouldn't have changed a thing.

We opted for an open tab, not bar. We had the prosecco for the toast and a lot of wine.

All said and done, it was much cheaper and my group drinks!

Sandy
