I like the half up, half down idea. And judging your photo, I think you could pull of some gorgeous curls! i think attaching the flower just to the side of where you clip your hair would look great.

Umm actually I have naturaly curly hair.. :-) What tends to happen is the salon doesn't think my hair will take the curls and it actually takes them really well, I usually end up like shirly temple.. "The sun will come out, tomorrow, tomorrow, blah blah blah"

I would use the green orchid it will photoghaph much better. and yes placement is key. maybe you can have one side pulled back and place the orchid behind and above the ear and you may need two or three instead of one. especially if your hair is curled. I know they look big but you would be surprised. Since you have the orchids for the fans why don't you splurge and get a hair trial and take a pic. You may also want to consider a low loose curl bun close to the nape. Very sexy and very loose but with ton's of hairspray. Then you can arrange the orchids kind of like this:
