Yes, I am getting married on the beach. I wanted 4pm as well but even though I asked for my wedding date back in August last year I did not get the time I wanted (but 3pm is not bad). We had friends who had to get married at 12pm because it was the only time available during the week they were there (talk about HOT out there!).

The beach wedding setup is a little to the side but no matter what you will have people walking around and gawking, no matter where it is.

Hi Everyone!

Congrats to all of the Majestic Brides. What an exciting time!

My fiance and I currently have our date on hold for November 27th, 2010 (so far away!) but we also have another hotel reserved in the Riveria Maya; we are a little torn between locations and was hoping past and present brides would be willing to help us out!

They main thing I am concerned with is having the ceremony and reception location that fit and look right. I am a big environment girl and like to make sure the surroundings of the place we pick will fit right, look good and make our guests feel special (this sounds so silly but I hope someone understands what I am saying!)

With that being said, what can everyone tell me about the reception locations available at the Majestic Elegance? We originally picked the Parrot Bar but dislike the round trellace the goes overtop. We also were interested in a beach reception but are thinking that the wind will be too strong and we want to avoid paying $300 extra for a dance floor to be put in.

I know Jodi, a past bride here, said the Steak House was a great option. But her pictures were from dinner INSIDE. Josh, yours from the Steak House look to be outside under a much larger trellace. Can anyone clarify??

If anyone could let me know my options for a reception plus names of those places and PICTURES I would be so so grateful! This will really help our deciding process if we could get a visual. The coordinators aren't the best of helps o I figured you fab friends would be :) My e-mail is [email protected].

xo much love! Rhiannon

Hi Rhiannon,

One thing to remember is that there is the Elegance and the Colonial. Both resorts are owned by the same people, and they look basically the same but have small differences.

I agree that the wind would probably be too strong for a beach setup in November.

My photos of the steakhouse were on the Colonial side, and they were on the terrace of the steakhouse, Jodi's I believe were inside the steakhouse again at the Colonial. With the terrace you would have the same problem with wind because it is outside of the wind screens (it is basically 30 feet from the location of the beach reception.

The steakhouse at the Elegance is not on the beach, it is near the lobby. You can have the non-private reception there and you are separated quite a bit from the rest of the guests. There is also a big room in the steakhouse that you can ask for. I'm not sure if it's counted as public or private.

There is the Parrot Bar, which you mentioned that you didn't care for.

There is also the Wet Bar location. Very similar to the Parrot Bar but there isn't much of anything overhead. The tables are out more in the open.

There is the Seafood restaurant (that looks like the Steakhouse at the Colonial). This is a non-private option.

The final option is the Presidential Suite. I actually have not seen the suite at the Elegance.

I am in the Dominican right now so I don't have all of the photos on me, but I will try and post more once I get back to Montreal.

Lol, I think that I may be in the same boat as your friends. We could only get a 1pm time so we may be melting a bit and have hairy speedo people in the background of our pics but FH and I are the types who would find that hilarious smile116.gif

The beach set up is not off to the side...it is in the middle and seems to separate the colonial beach chairs and the elegance beach chairs. They do move the chairs away a bit but it is not private at all. When I went down for a site visit FI and I hadn't made up our mind whether to do it on the beach or gazebo, after seeing the site location I didn't like how close the beach chairs were to the wedding location. I have been to many resorts in the caribbean and normally saw the beach location set aside on a more private location, not in the middle of everything. Like I've said this is just my opinion and other brides have no problem with it. I consulted my photographer Phil Steingard and he said that in his opinion there were pros/cons for both sites but he did say the gazebo was easier for a photographer because you didn't have to try and miss getting beach goers in the pictures. Another thought...if you are doing video...realize the wind and waves can get loud on the video and it can be harder to hear. I honestly would love a beach wedding...just not there. If they could move the site...I'd be all for it! Good luck with whatever you do!
