Anna C:

Do you really want to split your guests up? I think if I was a guest I'd feel a little out of place or left out? Like Josh said in #2, they might not get a nice wedding table set up and instead, would just be regular hotel guests.

For my friends wedding, we were right beside where the wall/curtain would come down. But because it was a nice day, it was all open so it was like we were outside. Even if you had the "free" dinner inside the steakhouse, it pretty much is still private. You don't even notice anyone around.

It's frustrating that there are so many "catches" when planning these! Good luck and I hope it works out for you :)

Ok, so I actually got a great option from Maritee. I emailed her this morning to reserve my date (she had emailed me 3 possible dates) and I also asked about this option, thinking I wouldn't hear from her for a few days. But to my surprise she emailed me immediately and told me that I can rent that space out for $300 and still have the "free" dinner. Much like renting the Wet Bar or Parrot Bar. I don't think they mention it to everyone because of the bar being right there, so it might be a well kept secret, oops!

I do find that the nicer you are to them and you thank them a lot and compliment them on their job well done, the more they are willing to help you out. I just basically told her what I can and can't afford and what I really wanted and she accommodated that. Also communication is the key, I have the advantage of speaking spanish and that could have helped to not have miscommunication.

As far as cutting the time to 2 hrs because of the bar I am not sure yet, she didn't mention it, but it could come up since I keep reading about this. I personally don't mind, but if anyone would want to keep the party going another hour, of course most people do, then the Parrot Bar and Wet Bar is a better option, just ask about the open bar being half price after the 1st hour, she had mentioned it to me when I met with her. Saves a lot of money.

Oh and to be clear, I totally agree about not splitting up the guests, I told the same thing to my FI about making people feel left out, but I thought I'd ask anyways and it got me a better option (she probably felt bad that it came down to asking that LOL).

Oh yeah, the most important part....My date is March 26 5pm!!! I moved it up a couple of months, even though it falls during high season but it works out better for my family because of Holy Week.

Does anyone know if we are doing a symbolic ceremony that we HAVE to bring our marriage certificate?

JOSH- Do you have any pictures of a beach ceremony at the Elegance? I don't really like that alter thing they've got going on in some photos I've seen.

I'm having a dinner at the steakhouse at the Elegance, and at first I told Maritee that I would have 35-40 people, and now its up to 55. When I asked what the table set up would be (4 months later), she came back and told me that I could only have 30 people in the separate room and if I was having more, I'd have to pay $25 per person to have it in the private dining area at the steakhouse. I was shocked she never told me that before b/c it was like $1200 we didn't expect! But our planner/TA through destinationweddings.com worked it out and we won't have to pay extra.
