Hello Ladies!  I have been narrowing down resorts for the last 3 months & am trying to decide between Excellence RM & Dreams RM.  I noticed that there are way more posts on the dreams thread & they have 3 weddings/day.  Does anyone know how many weddings Excellence has/day.  I am leaning towards Excellence because it doesn't seem as busy for weddings.  Thanks!

If you are not having any kids then Excellence.  I've seen photos of Dreams RC and while it looks good the beach seems quite crowded and with a lot of kids around.  The Excellence wedding packages are cheaper than Dreams.  Also the cost of each additional guest at Dreams is over US$90 (if you go for the cocktail hour and dinner) whereas at Excellence it's US$45 per extra guest. I think it's even an extra US$5 per additonal guest for the wedding cake.  If you go for the Silver or Gold package at Dreams but qualify for the free wedding, you don't just pay the extra cost like at Excellence (i.e. at Excellence you pay US$650 to upgrade from the free wedding to the Silver package (US$1,500-$US850).  At dreams the Excellence of Love (Silver) package is US$2,060.  If you qualify for the free wedding but decide to go for teh silver package you need to pay the full US$2,060).

Dreams is cheaper for the accommodation though.  The restaurants and service will be great at Dreams.

Excellence has 2 weddings maximum per day.  Usually one in the morning and one about 4-5pm.

I like the lay out of Excellence a lot more but that's just personal preference.  Excellence seems to have secluded spots on the resort whereas Dreams seems more like open plan.

I am biased towards Excellence however.  Both choices will be great.

Thanks so much for the info!  My FI's sister wants to bring her child to the wedding who will be around 14 months at the time.  I fell in love with Excellence back when we first got engaged, but put it out of my mind since she wanted to bring her baby.  Everyone else, including my FMIL says to do what we want.  They don't really think the baby should come to Mexico either!!  Thanks again!!!

Not at all!  People walked by and were very respectful of our private event.  They even congratulated and "Cheered" us.  It was a great spot for the cocktail hour, especially with Agave being right around the corner.  It worked perfectly.

We have a few family members and friends who wanted to come but couldn't because of the no kids rule.  It's definitely an intimate and personal decision, knowing that some people may not be able to come unless they can bring their kids.  We decided on ERC because it was the best choice for us and everything turned out beautifully.  If it was an issue for us, we would have just gotten married stateside.  There are some great resorts out there that accommodate kids, too, if that's a concern.  My brother and sister-in-law got married at the Moon Palace Resort and it, too, was a lot of fun and beautiful.  You just have to decide what's right for you and yours and go with it. :)  It's your day!! :)

Hi everyone!

I read on TripAdvisor that some people recently thought that Excellence Riviera Cancun seemed a little old and needed to be updated.  Did any of you find this to be true?  Does the resort seen aged and in need of a little refreshing?

Thanks in advance for your responses! =)

I have not been there since April '09, but both my fiance and I thought it was beautiful.  I can see where other travelers might say that it seems outdated, though.  Many of the resorts in this area are very sleek and modern.  This resort has a Mayan inspired theme and atmosphere.  This type of decor lends itself to being a little rustic you could say.  Also because of this it does not have the trendiest look.  It is still a five star luxury resort, though (4 1/2 I think.)  The last time I was there, the grounds were very manicured with beautiful flowers blooming and little gardens everywhere.  The rooms and other facilities are very well maintained.  The restaurants are all pretty upscale.  Maybe I am easily impressed, but I love this resort and think it is absolutely beautiful.  If you are looking for that sleek look, the Excellence Playa Mujeres definitley has a more modern feel.  It is only thirty minutes north of the ERC.  I hope this helps.
