The Grand changed the requirements for their free wedding. Contrary to what my contract states, my TA confirmed that 60% of my guests must stay at the Grand. When we booked our wedding date the contract stated that 90% of wedding guests must stay at 1 of their 3 properties. Moving my wedding to the suites was an option, but this situation has left a bad taste in my mouth so I'll be taking my 100+ guests and my wedding elsewhere. They can go piss up a rope with their nickel and diming bullish. Onto the next resort!

Cateyedcutie, I've never heard the 60% requirement for the free wedding (and I have asked the WC several times).  But I'm honestly not surprised.  They keep changing their rules on a whim.  You still have a year out, so that's plenty of time to find a new venue.  I'm 3-months away (yikes!), so I feel kind of "stuck" with the Grand.  If I could rewind to September (when I first got engaged), I think I would have stuck with my idea to rent a private villa.  Or I would go with a smaller boutique hotel (and rent the whole hotel).

Hi Ladies,

I am planning my wedding for may/june 2013, my fiance and I are heading to Jamaica this May to look at resorts, right now we are 99% sure we are going to get married at the Iberostar, however we are not sure which property, this trip we will be staying at the suites. Are there any suggestions you can make in choosing between the 3, also what sort of things should I know when I go there for the visit. We are going May 12-19 if any of you ladies are getting married that week I'd love to catch a peek of the wedding to get an idea of what I should expect!

Thanks so much!

You'll have to let us know how your trip goes! For me, it came down to the costs. I wanted to keep a week-long vacation to $1500 per person (all inclusive resort and airfare). When we were looking at prices the Beach allowed us to stay within that amount. To bump up to the Suites would have been an extra $1000 for me and FI, and we decided that we would rather use that money for other wedding items, whether it was having a cocktail reception at the resort or putting it towards our AHR when we return. And I knew that some family members weren't going to be able to go over that $1500 amount either, so I was trying to keep our guests in mind. I think there may be some differences in the wedding packages (pricing specifically) between the 3 resorts, so you should check that out as well. The Grand is adults only, so if you have family or guests that have children you may want to choose the Suites or Beach. There is a thread on here with an Iberostar Suites roll call, check that out and see if anyone has listed their wedding for the week you are staying there and try to get in touch with them.

By the way, I saw that the Suites has a lazy river. That is the one thing I will miss by not staying there, I would have totally been hanging out in the river with a drink the day after the wedding! cheers.gif

Hi everyone.  I have a question about the vendor fee.  I am booking the band Irie Connection for our beach bonfire the night before the wedding and want to know if the vendor fee is just one fee for the whole band or if that's the fee PER band member?

I emailed the WC but they take forever so I thought I'd ask here.  Thanks!

My understanding is that it is per person, at least at the Suites.  I have a photographer and his assistant coming, and I was told that I have to pay the vendor fee for both of them.  That is part of the reason I am trying to limit how many outside vendors I use.  Maybe try to see if the resort can book the band for you.  If you book a steel drum band through the resort, then you don't pay that fee.  Not sure they would be able to book them for you, but it might be worth it to ask to try to save a fee for all of the members.

Be careful that you're not confusing the "vendor fee" and the "day pass".  There's no vendor fee for photographers at Iberostar.  They only require a day pass, therefore you have to purchase a day pass for EACH photographer.  But for a band or musical group, they "should" be considered as 1 vendor...therefore, only 1 vendor fee (and no day passes).  You should check with your WC to confirm.
