I would defiantly look into group rates at the Suites. Come up with a list of things that you would like Iberostar to offer you for free or reduced cost since you will be bringing 50-60 people to stay at their resort for your wedding. We made a tired list of incentives based on the amount of rooms that are booked i.e. 10 rooms booked free cocktail hour and 3 nights free, the incentives increase with every additional 5 rooms we book.  Keep in mind that you can talk to other TAs about offering you such incentives for a group rate for your wedding.

This is fantastic!  I'm not dealing with a TA (maybe soon), but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask Nicole to reduce some costs or include things for free.  In particular, I really don't agree with paying for the open bar (per person per hour, no less!).  I would also like them to waive the $30 fee for people coming over from the Beach (we have decided that we would pay this for our guests, but I would really prefer is they just wouldn't charge it to begin with).  I'd love to hear other brides experiences with getting costs reduced or eliminated (and would really appreciate a PM if you'd rather not post it publicly).

Hi Cam,

How did you like Calabash? I'm having a really hard time deciding between Aunt Ruby's and Calabash. I have a few vegetarians so I hope that there will be options for them. Why didn't they make you rent out the restaurant? Did you not have a DJ or anyone making speeches? I thought that if you had music or speeches, you were forced to rent it out? How many guests did you have?

Sorry for so many questions :)

I didn't even think about it like that but I guess we did. My guest were just ordering as they normally would at the restaurant on any other day. We had the reception at Calabash restaurant. We did not hire it out so the were two other tables of 2 or 4 people so I guess they just treated it like it was not a wedding. Which makes sense to me! obviously this cannot be guaranteed if they have their policy but it was ok for us. I don't think my guest would have even understood if the waiter had said no you may not have that. They came around with wine, then people would say actually can i get.... or just accept the wine. Maybe its different if you hire out the restaurant. I think the closest bar would have been the lobby bar up the stairs, not far but not so close to pop out and get drinks.

Islandgirl, married life is fab! love it, I want a wedding every year now! that was actually our 2nd we got married first in December 09 in a church and this was the beach one  I had always dreamed of, it felt like the main one as all the family was present.

Thanks for the info Imuze!

Were your guests annoyed that they had to go elsewhere to get drinks or was it close enough that everyone was fine with it? Did you rent out Aunt Rubys?

Do you know if you are having your wedding at Aunt Ruby Steakhouse, you can have your guests go inside and order whatever they want? We didn't pay extra but most waiters will bring anything your guests want or they just have to walk inside to where there is a bar and they can get anything they want from the bar. That's what we did.

At the reception, wine and soft drinks are served. But to be honest I think they will serve any drink you order as we were having kir Royale, Shirley Temples, Rum and coke etc. My guest were just ordering what they usually drink and it was no problem at all. But I think the official status is wine and soft drinks

When I email Nicole, she ALWAYS gets back to me within the week so I would just email her with your questions

I know I have at least 50 ppl coming. I agree with you regarding the open bar fee. I am hoping I can get a reduce price/upgrades on things. Maybe I will see you there, I am getting married 11.11.11!

Yes, I took pics in between.  We god some sunset ones but it did get dark quickly.  We took a lot of pics inside, too, though.  I did run late, so if I was on time we would have had more time for outside pictures.

I actually just got all my pics uploaded and I will post them on this thread shortly!

Thanks,

Hi Chan Porty,

I know there is a bar inside Aunt Ruby's but I'm sure you have to pay the additional $10 pp in order to use that for your private reception. The next closest bar would be the piano bar in the lobby. I wasn't there on a Monday, Thursday-Sunday. A bride that had their wedding at the suites might be able to help you out more.

Do you know if there is a bar near Aunt Ruby's or Cabaresh? I can't decide between these 2 for my reception. Also, were you there on a Monday? Do you know what the Suites Nightclub is like on a Monday night? I was thinking of moving my party to the club but I want to make sure that it's good on a Monday.

Thanks for any information that you can provide :)

Let me know if you have any questions about the suties I met with Nicole in November when I did a site visit. I took alot of pictures of booth the suites and grand while there. What's your e-mail address I'll send you pictures.

We will be staying at the Suites because we have kids, but we'll be arriving on your wedding day... ours will be on the 6th- probably on the Suites terrace. It just seems surreal to talk to someone ahead of time who will be there at the same time! Too cool!

Did you choose a photographer yet? I booked Brian Nejely and he will edit your pictures and remove people and objects from the background of your pictures if needed. It's something to keep in mind if you have your heart set on a beach ceremony.

When I met with the WC at the Grand in November I made it very clear to hear that I don't want anyone on the sidelines during my wedding. It's the staff's and WC responsibility to clear out the area before your wedding begins. It's best to have your ceremony around 4-5pm because of the lighting from the sun and most people will be heading back to their rooms from the pool to get ready for dinner.
