Iberostar Rose Hall Brides - Post all info/questions here!

Recommended Posts

Hey Ladies, I just need to rant. I finally got back in touch with the wedding coordinator at the suites after sending a bunch of emails over the last month. I called her and tracked her down rather than continuing to send and ask for a response. I went through all the details I had worked out with Tai Flora regarding my beach reception and now out of nowhere she tells me I require minimum 50 people. I told her this was in none of the correspondence we went through over the past 8-9 months. She said oh well, that is there policy. I told her the whole reason we were discussing doing the beach reception was because we didn't have the numbers for the private reception we wanted. She looked through some paperwork and then said 'well it doesn't matter anyway because you definitely do NOT want a beach reception in January'. Its their winter time and she said it is crazy windy on the beach after 5:30pm. So why did Tai Flora tell me it would be fine? Maybe because Tai Flora makes more money from us for a beach reception???? So my question is to anyone who has been to Iberostar in January or even better anyone who has had a beach reception in January. How windy is and cold does it really get? We are from Alberta Canada so are use to wind and cold in January, but at the same time we will all be wearing summer dresses. Any input would be very helpful so I can make my final decision this weekend. On another note, the coordinator told me that she does not send the overall wedding package where I confirm all the misc. details (ceremony & dinner time, guest list, food choices, rehearsal dinner requests, beach welcome party, etc) until 1 month before. I asked if she could send early so I could take a look at what they require and she said no because this is their process. Oh and I asked about scanning in and sending the Notarized documents (because I heard the Grand and Beach accept this). She said this is not an Iberostar requirement but rather a requirement from the Government of Canada. So Fed Ex they went for $82. So back to square one I go with planning of the reception!

Well this is not good news, especially considering I'm planning the exact same thing one week later. They told me about the minimum 50 people requirement, but I've also since learned that there is a $32/person option if you have a beach buffet dinner. They've never given me any indication that it would be too cold for a tent reception. I've also been in touch with Floral Fantasy and Conrad at Cover me Up Rentals and no one has indicated at any time that it would be something to reconsider.

I checked a few weather/tourism sites and they generally all agree that the daily high temperature is 29-30C and the low is around 21-23C in January.

This site gives a lot of details: http://weatherspark.com/averages/32527/1/Montego-Bay-St-James-Parish-Jamaica

I also found these comments on other sites:

"Jamaica in January still offers temperatures that are warm and balmy, and the winter season means dry days and nights on this island, making it one of the best times of the year to visit, especially if you are visiting from the north. It is perhaps because of the fine weather that so many travelers choose January as the perfect time to visit Jamaica."

"Lying on the north coast of the island, Montego Bay sees slightly higher rainfall annually than parts of the south coast- which are shadowed from rain by the island mountains. Most of the years rainfall will come during May to October, and the driest time of the year will from January to March- making this the most ideal time to visit."

I  have been emailing back and forth with Santena the last little while.  Since I started planning this wedding 1 year ago I have been in contact with 3 different WC.  I don't think there is any concern, they do pass along all info.  Trust me I've asked a few times.  Let me know if you have any questions I'd be more than glad to help

I've been corresponding with Kymoya and she gets back to me right away so I'm pretty pleased with her. I've never been to Jamaica in November but I find that's a great time of the year to go south. Bahamas & Florida is perfect that time of the year so I'm sure Jamaica is, seeing it's even further south.
