Iberostar Rose Hall Brides - Post all info/questions here!

Recommended Posts

OMG!  That is beautiful!  I so want to stay there after the wedding; however, I am so torn.   We are planning to be in Jamaica from Wednesday - Tuesday (Saturday wedding).  I was thinking we could stay somewhere different, like Tensing Pen, from Sunday - Tuesday (we are going on our honeymoon six months after our wedding), but I am torn because I rarely get to see all of our family and friends.  My fiance says we need to just stay at IRHS.   What are your thoughts?  What did you do?

Also, non-related question, did anyone put on their invitation anything about the resort fee if people do not stay at IRHS?   I have some people that are talking about going to Jamaica but staying elsewhere.  I have the resort fee info on our website, but I don't think they have seen it because the resort fee seems quite high and I think they would think otherwise about coming if they knew the cost.  Can I put it on the invitation or should I just hope that they see it on our website?

One thing you could consider is moving over to the Grand after your wedding for the last few days. I've heard of other couples doing this and loving the 5-star experience and having some alone time, but also the flexibility of walking next door to dine with guests, or just hang out.

I only have one guest considering staying elsewhere, but my thoughts to your second question are not to put it on the invite but instead make it more prominent on your site if you can, and direct those individuals to the info, perhaps with a personal email.

I personally wouldn't want to leave my guests for the last few days, but I like the suggestion of upgrading to the Grand.

To rant: I am mad at guests who want to book elsewhere and then come for the wedding day. Id prefer that they didn't come, to be honest. Traditionally the bride/ groom pay for the day pass for the people coming, but I think that is SHIT, I dont want to pay $75pp on top of everything else I am paying for, for guests that I couldn't care less if they came! They are only going to save like $150 going to a different resort anyways, it is expensive coming from Edmonton! They are being frugal at my expense!

When we first set up our website our parents where like "you need to give your guest other hotel options". We said 'no' .. it because we don't think, in the end, anyone would stay anywhere else.

I think if you where to have it in some place like Cancun or Cuba where the resorts can be laid out tightly, where you could walk the beach from hotel to hotel it would be different, but in Rose Hall there really is only a few hotels to choose from... most are in Montego Bay, which you cant just walk to... you would need transportation, then plus the resort fee .. which adds up quickly. I dont see the point in going all this way with friends and family to stay at another resort.. where you can't see the people...

We did tell people they could stay at any of the Iberostar Resorts, but if they where at the beach, they didn't have freedom to come see us..but at least we could meet up with them on the beach itself and go to them for dinner. So far though everyone has booked at the Suites which just makes it easier.

We made it very clear on our site that if anyone does choose to go to another hotel that there was fees associated with coming to our hotel. We didn't specify that we would pay these on the day of the wedding (which we would if we had to.. but rather not).

Hey Marcy,

I've booked Sungold Photography, one of their associate photographers, Ronald (as they are cheaper then the couple that runs the company). They are all local so no travel fees except for the $100 guest fee for the resort) All of them are amazing and my one thought was that family will take pictures, but you have wedding pictures for the rest of your life and you want good ones to show off. haha. I personally think its money well spent.

Court, I agree with you about staying at IRHS.  My TA is keeping me updated on the dates our guests are staying in Jamaica... we are staying Wednesday-Wednesday, others are coming Thursday or Friday but staying until Wednesday.  Originally we had wanted to stay at the Grand the entire time while our guests stayed at the Suites but the more we thought about it, we didn't think it was fair to stay at a different hotel.  We also didn't want to switch hotels since all of our guests were coming to Jamaica for us/our wedding and we didn't think it was fair to them to leave right after the wedding.  We will go on a honeymoon at a later date too - guess that's when we will get our alone time hahaha.

It's a Mori Lee...there's an even prettier version available now. If I had the choice between mine and the newer version, I'd go with the newer one. Check out the Mori Lee website for details. I will tell you, the dress was very popular with BDW.com brides. It was very lightweight and incredibly cost efficient. Good luck & Happy planning!!! R~

Hi Everyone!

I'm new to the site, getting married a the IRHS next July and I found a very cute hand painted canvas print that I wanted to give to all of my guests. I found this from TripAdvisor and spoke to the person who had it done, she said it was from a Jewel Resort and it was a beach vendor outside. Have any of you come across a vendor like this in Rose Hall or have any contacts of a local (Jamaican) artist that might do something like this in bulk at a reasonable price? The woman I spoke to said there were many vendors who do this relatively inexpensive there but I don't think I'll be heading there prior to the wedding and wanted to order them in advance so they're ready in time. The attachment below is what I'm looking for.

Thanks for any feedback!

We have also booked with itravel and have found them reasonable along with the fact they price match. I'm just before you, getting married Jan. 4th. I'm curious as to your TA assistance with the WC I didn't even know that was an option!!! I'm actually finding our tour operator Sunwing very strict. I need to discuss with the WC price negotiations ....would a TA be able to help with that?

Hey Mary, I worked with itravel2000 and they got us an amazing deal of $1200 pp taxes in. From what I've read that is a really great price. I am from Canada (near Toronto) so not sure how much the prices vary, but it's a suggestion. Also, I have found it a lot easier to deal with the resort/ WC through the agent as well.
Still figuring how this thread stuff works! I responded above as I'm curious to the assistance your TA has given you, actually from any brides. My agent is on top of my emails and bookings but doesn't go beyond. I feel like I'm the agent as I organize everything on my end how Sunwing needs it and then just send it to her.
