I have a question for the Grand brides (but this is relevant to everyone else as well).  I just emailed the wedding coordinator, Janielle, and asked her a series of questions.  One was in regards to the number of guests that must actually be booked at the Grand if we want to have a wedding there (this question was in response to the bride quoted below).  She told me 80% "if feasible".  What does "if feasible" mean? Has anyone else dealt with this?  I've never seen a contract that states any percentage.  We are expecting around 50 guests and we assumed we would have  mix of guests staying at all three resorts based on their budgets.  The free wedding package only calls for 5 rooms booked at the Grand!  Does everyone have 80% of the guests booked at the same resort?

32 bucks pp for a beach dinner?  I was just quoted 50 bucks pp...  Why is it that I'm getting such messed up answers than everyone else?  First the florist crap, now this.  Are there different beach dinners or is this resort just that messed... Sorry, just had to vent my frustrations.  I'm starting to think about calling management or something because this is just getting beyond irritating.

Regarding the beach BBQ - which resort are you talking about?  I know at the Suites they have a buffet option, and it's about $50-60.  I'm talking about the Beach resort, their beach BBQ menu states $32 per person.  Plus the open bar of course.  But I'm not hearing back from the WC's, I'm getting a little irritated, considering they screwed up my plans, and now they don't seem to be trying hard to sort it out.  I might have to call this weekend if I don't hear back.

Not me, I think it's tacky.  I would've tossed my bouquet, but we're only having ~25 people, and there will only be one single girl, so that wouldn't work :)

Have you thought about an off-site wedding option?

We are looking at a variety of villas right now, as well as Tropical Weddings Jamaica and what Almarie has to offer.  Our research so far has resulted in a few options that give us more for our money than having the wedding at the resort.  There's also the appeal of more flexibility, a more intimate affair, and much better service :) Just a thought! We haven't finalized anything yet, but it's just something to consider.

Hi Leah,

I am not aware of this policy. I signed up for the free wedding package also and it says you only need 5 rooms booked at the Grand for 3 + nights OR 1 oceanfront room booked for 7+ nights to take advantage of the free wedding package so we are just doing the 1 oceanfront room and might have everyone else stay at the Suites. Of course, they do charge $50 per person for those staying at the other Iberostar properties just to come to the Grand for the wedding but other than that, I don't see how they can possibly force you to have 80% of your guests stay at the Grand if it's not in any of the policies.

Hi Susan, That is our plan as well. We think we will have the 5 rooms booked at the Grand and then we assumed most of our guests will be at the Suites or Beach resort. I'm going to try and call her tomorrow. I've never seen it written anywhere and i've read all the info she's given me. I think they would prefer if 80% stayed there. But if we're paying $50 pp for a day pass + $20 pp for the ceremony & reception then they're collecting extra money regardless.

That quote was for the beach resort.  Who the heck knows anymore...  They probably just hate me and are price gauging me.

I just looked through all my emails and I found the "Wedding Agreement" that the PR manager sent me a couple of weeks ago.  According to this form, you need 90% of your guests to stay on the entire property!  Including the Grand, Suites, and Beach resorts combined.  I have attached it.

Leslioni, I'm planning to get married at home and just do a vow renewal in Jamaica as well (I don't want to wait 6 months for my marriage certificate and then have to deal with submitting it to my state).  I read through all the forms and I don't think you need anything for the vow renewal since it's a non-legal ceremony.  But it wouldn't hurt to bring a copy of your marriage certificate.  They also offer a "blessing" ceremony.  And for that I know you would need nothing.

I believe the beach dinner price varies per resort. At the beach I was quoted $32 pp but I think it''s $50 at the suites. Either way, if you have at least 30 people you may come out cheaper just renting out Aunt Ruby's or Uncle Tony's (depending on where your wedding is). They are open air restaurants and open right out to the beach so you will get the same affect.
