How to break up with a friend?

Recommended Posts

Thats a tough one, letting it fizzle out leave both parties with animosity as things were never really "ended" I would have the discussion with her/them, it may be more appropriate for your FI to have the break up talk with M as they were friends originally, that way M won't feel like its you not letting her be friend with your FI anymore. You know how girls are :-)

I would do the we are growing apart as friends with different interests/needs (you need to feel safe that you won't be attacked by a dog or mugged in the slums).

If you do invite them be prepared for them to show up even if you don't want them too.

Be honest that you don't want to go to thier wedding, at least then there is no wondering on thier part as to why you weren't there.

Good luck!

Having had to "break up" with a friend I can tell you it's not easy. I was in my early 20s, and my friend (MOH actually!) and I physically sat down with another friend and broke up with her. She was just too much...very bossy & my way or the highway type of deal. Nobody from our group of friends really liked her. But when we actually did it everyone shit on us for it - and we were the bad guys. Oh well...we're still not friends with her & I"m no worse off for it!! :)

I say just go with the flow - if it gets too trenuous or stressful for you then lay it out for them. Maybe 4 of you could sit down & talk about it (if you can get them to keep a date!!) Good luck with it!!!
