Barcelo Riviera Maya Site Visit - Done!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hey girls,

I just got back from a site visit to the Barcelo Maya Resorts we stayed for 7 days.

My FI & I are staying on the Colonial/Tropical side until the night of our wedding & upgrading to the Palace that night & for the rest of our stay. Here is the run down, it doesn't matter where your guests stay, only where you and your FI are booked the day you get married.

ie. if you are booked at the Colonial/Tropical you can not use the palace gazebo for your wedding, but if you are booked at the Palace the day of your wedding, you can.

Differences btwn the resorts:

Palace: Unlimited A la carte restaurants, top shelf liquor, can use ALL facilities at Palace, Colonial/Tropical, Beach/Caribe

Colonial/Tropical: Can not use any facilities/pool or even walk over to the Palace, A la carte meal tickets (depending upon number of days booked (1-3 tickets), No top shelf drinks (ie. Jack Daniels, Absolut, etc), can use/eat at all of the facilities on the Colonial/Tropical & Beach/Caribe

Beach/Caribe: Can not use any facilities/pool or even walk over to the Palace, A la carte meal tickets can only be used a the Beach/Caribe Restaurants (Al Agave, Mexican; Don Quiote, Spanish) (depending upon number of days booked (1-3 tickets), No top shelf drinks (ie. Jack Daniels, Absolut, etc), can eat only at the beach grills of the Colonial/Tropical & only use their pools, no Colonial/Tropical restaurants or buffet.

Wedding packages are all the same no matter if you stay at the Palace or the other resorts. Here is the main differences with a few of the packages:

Sea Breeze Package: Private dinner chosen off a set menu from one of the a la carte restaurants, dinner can only be held in a banquet room for parties over 11 people, if under 11 they do it in the restaurant you choose the same menu from. (note there is a $20pp charge for any guests over 20)

Under the Stars: Private dinner with the menu chosen from 4 different options (this is different food than served at the restaurants, specially made for weddings) You can order a taste test, but they charge you to do that sad.gif You can mix and match from the 4 different menu options (meaning a app from choice 1, dessert from choice 3, etc), but you have to choose only one 4 course meal for your guest unless there is a vegetarian or something. ie. if you choose beef for you main course, everyone gets beef, unless the are a vegetarian, you can't let the guests pick from either chicken or beef, you choose for them. (note there is a $60pp charge for any guests over 10)

Ocean Scents: Same dinner as the Under the Stars, but you and your FI get VIP Status (Top Shelf booze, unlimited a la carte restaurants, special section at the Jaguar's Discotheque) This doesn't matter much if you are staying at the Palace, though.

Alcohol is based on where your guests are staying (ie. If they have a Colonial/Tropical wristband on, they will not get top shelf drinks at your wedding) but some one could just order it for them :)

I will be posting pics & stuff too.......

For the Under the Stars & Above packages, you can either have your dinner on the beach or in a Snack Bar near the ocean. Snack bars are only open from 7am -6:30pm which is why you can do your dinner there. It is open air, lots of fans & over looks the beach/ocean (I loved this option) The Coral Grill at the Palace, & the Mariaci Grill at the Colonial are no longer avaible as an option (They are both open for dinner now). You can only use the Palmaras Grill at the Tropical... I will post pics soon...

Free Centerpieces: This is the standard, a plate, an oil thing-y, & a hurricane vase that goes over the top, they make a flower out of fruit like a melon to go around the plate depending upon the season is the fruit they use!
