Tips for guests

Recommended Posts

My guests are going to Mexico, but this stuff applies to both.

(To prepare all the older family members who get cranky about slow service.)

1) Relax. Everything takes a little longer to get done here. Meals can take hours. Remember, you are on vacation - relax and enjoy the view!

(So people don't get stuff stolen)

2) Do not bring valuable with you. Even room safes aren't always safe.

3) Don't go places alone, esp not at night. This includes walks along the beach at night.

i went to my island's tourism website and copied and pasted relative travel info and tips into a word document and made a little "travel guide" on stuff like local culture./customs, currency, slang, etc.

like a lot of this: JAMAICA - A premier caribbean travel destination featuring the resort areas of Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, Kingston, Port Antonio and South Coast.

would be cool for guests to know.

I also contacted my island's tourism board and they sent me a bunch of free maps and coupn books for the area. maybe you can do that as well.

I've visited Jamaica 4 times, so here's my insider advice:

"soon come mon" - this is a frequent saying, it means you'll get your drink/meal eventually. Just relax & enjoy the view :)

Bring bug spray! Mosquitos & "noseeums" will eat the vulnerable alive.

Medicate yourself for the ride from the airport to the resort (beer, liquor, prescriptions, whatever) - it freaks most people out!

Jamaica is awesome, but for some people it's just frusterating to have "relaxed" service. That's the biggest thing to make people aware of in my opinion. Just order 2 drinks every time & you should be fine wink.gif
