The turtles at Akumal Bay ~ underwater pics!!

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to share some turtle pics while swimming and snorkeling during our day at Akumal Bay in 2006. This little guy was literally about 40 feet out from shore. There were tons of snorkel groups out there that paid big bucks and were wearing their high tech equipment to find the turtles, and my little 5-foot aunt found this amazing creature without any kind of mask on. My brother then paparrazied the poor thing with his digital cam, lol. I think because theyâ€re so used to having people around, theyâ€re not scared at all and will actually swim very close to you. wink.gif So donâ€t bother paying to have a snorkel guide take you out, itâ€s so easy to find em on your own!!!

If youâ€re ever in the area and decide to take a dip, they tend to stay where thereâ€s a little bit of sea grass on the bottom just in front but a little to the left of Lo Ha restaurant ~ and yes they are absolutely beautiful!!! And if you swim about 100 to 150 feet out thereâ€s an amazing line of reefs with tons of colorful coral and marinelife. cheesy.gif Such a beautiful place *sigh*

Wow, those are so peaceful! Thank you for sharing.

For Bachata bride asking about underwater cameras - you can buy digital cameras that you can use underwater up to 10ft or 30ft (more expensive). I know Olympus makes one for sure. The other option is a disposable underwater camera. Underwater housings in general are expensive.
