TropicLover - do you know how large the Villa Marina restaurant is? We are considering it for our reception rather than lobby terrace, but do you think it could fit 70 people?

@queenbennett congrats! Yes we will definitely see you there! I actually read somewhere that the resorts photographer is NOT good, so I'm just going to book someone else. I'd probably regret if I didn't anyways where are you going to have your celebration at? I'm a little confused on where the reception part is suppose to be.we can help each other out along the way

The bm dresses are the Jasmine B2 brand.  Honestly I never heard of it before.  We found it at my bridal store (Lisa's Bridal) and the cut was perfect for the ladies.  They were a big long (in-between a tea length and the knee) so we had them shortened to 1 inch above the knee when the came in.  The sample colour was a charcol grey which was nice, but not what I was looking for.  We ended up selecting the green from a tiny fabric swatch.  It was pretty scary not knowing how the whole thing would turn out, but in the end I was happy.  I've included the web link below, however the particular dress we picked isn't online.  http://www.belsoie.com/

@keenotes-  Yes, dessert options are different than the wedding cake. We chose creme brûlée and haven't decided about the wedding cake choices yet.  I think we will decide when we get to the resort. Can you email me the choices?

 

@leahbecker- The VillaMarina is a restaurant at the resort and in order for them to accommodate 70 people, I think they would have to shut the restaurant down.  They have a section of the restaurant where they accommodate wedding receptions but I think it would be for a smaller wedding party (20-30).  When I was down there, they had a small wedding reception happening on the one side of the restaurant and there were resort guests on the other side. I don't know how private you want it to be but it wasn't private.  Also, I do believe that the Villa Marina is closed on Thursdays and you could possibly ask Ana if you could hold the reception there on their closed day.  The space is def. big enough for 70 people. Hope that info helps. 

 

@Shanon09 & Queenbennett- I am going to reassure that yes, you will regret not hiring an outside photographer. OMG, my fiancé and I still laugh when we think of the resorts photographers pictures. When we sat down with Ana last July, she had this amazing photo book with great pics but she told us that she could not guarantee that particular photographer because they send you whoever is working that day. From what we saw, the other pictures were laughable.  These are your wedding pictures, you don't want to take a chance with that. About the reception locations-  They offer the reception locations off the Lobby Deck (this is a big wide open space overlooking the ocean), a rooftop location (i think they offer this, not sure) and the beach between the months of Nov-May (not sure about the months) because of the sea turtle egg nests on the beach they cannot have any events on the beach after 7pm.

@QueenBennett, thanks for the nice compliments!  Our photographer was Sascha Gluck from Cancun photos. http://www.cancunphotos.net/  The only other outside vendor we used was Planner1 for chairs and lights. 

 

@Leahbecker, the Villa Marina is quite large.  You’d have to have at least +70 guests to occupy the entire restaurant.  I remember Ana saying you could do your reception dinner there, however they wouldn’t close the restaurant so you’d be seated amongst other hotel guests.  Also I don’t think they would allow a dj or anything there because other people would be having your dinner.  The Terrace is really nice and it’s way more private than the Villa Marina.

@sandy borie- thank you so much for the info! I think it was something I read of yours in a different thread (maybe) that said the resort photographer is ridiculous! So we are definitely getting an outside photographer! This is pretty much the most important part for me i guess my question is, when I had talked to Ana last she told me that if we have our dinner reception at one of the a la carte resturants we could not have music, so which places do we know we can have dinner and reception that will include dancing?

@kleenotes, I didn't mean to forget about you ;-)  Glad you liked the pictures!  We're happy with them and can't wait until we get to see all of them!

 

For the cake we asked Ana if we could do Red Velvet.  It took her a while to get back to us because she had to check with the Chef Manager or something.  Anyway they did do and from what I've heard it was really good.  If you can believe it I actually didn't have any.  Actually most of the younger people were too busy dancing and didn't have any either.  Thinking of it now it probably would have been a good idea to provide cake boxes so our guests could bring it back to their room for a late night snack.

@Shanon09- The lobby terrace for sure ;-) that I know of will let you have music. I think if you choose one of the a la carte restaurants you cannot have music because of the other resort guests also eating their meals there.  If you choose one of the private reception locations then you can have music (your iPod connected to speakers, live music band that they offer or DJ)
