Researching destinations in the Riviera Maya for early 2010 wedding!

Hi everyone! My name is Meaghan and my boyfriend of five and a half years proposed to me a few weeks ago! We have lived many places together, from Washington DC to Sicily, and we love to travel. Our friends and families are also very spread out across the U.S. and Europe, so a destination wedding seems the way to go! Also, Mexico is very special to us for several reasons: talked about going there together on our first date, it was our first trip together, my Fiance (don't know all the acronyms yet!) used to live there doing research, etc. We also went to the Riviera Maya last spring and I fell in love with the place.

I'm SO happy to have found this incredibly helpful forum! I'm definitely feeling overwhelmed right now as I'm searching for the perfect place to have our ceremony and reception, and reading everyone's reviews has been particularly helpful. We are leaning strongly towards Tulum or Playa -- most importantly we want a beautiful, simple-but-elegant wedding (TRYING to keep the guestlist down, but it will probably be around 70, depending on how much we can afford) and for it to be as PRIVATE as possible. We have friends and family from a wide range of incomes and it's also very important that we make it as easy and affordable as possible for them to join us. I'm less interested in an AI resort (just doesn't feel like us), would prefer a small, more private beach-y locale -- but that being said, I need to pick a place where elderly or less adventurous relatives would be comfortable as well...

Look forward to spending a LOT of time on these forums in the coming months, and I look forward to celebrating and commiserating with all of you beautiful brides-to-be. Thanks, and nice to "meet" you!

Meaghan
