The police academy may ruin my wedding plans....

AN UPDATE --- Ok well not much of an update, but FI went to meet with the background investigator and everything went well. He answered a 100+ questionnaire about his past/experiences and the investigator said it looked really clean and good. He got sent home with a extensive packet to fill out that's due back in a litte more than a week which will get the ball rolling on a thorough background check where they talk to past neighbors, relatives, employers, etc. -- basically everybody and their momma, lol. Then he'll take a polygraph and psychological evaluation exam.

So as I had expected he's on the right track and the possibility of him getting accepted into the academy looks good. He didn't wanna ask the investigator about our possible "wedding conflict" because it would seem too presumptuous in assuming that he'll get through the recruitment process. So me being crafty, sent a random email to their recruitment officer asking how long the process would take from the time he takes the written test and physical exam to the time he gets accepted into the academy. He sent me back a thorough response, but bottom line was 2 to 4 months, then about a month before he would enter the academy. *sigh* yep that means he could possibly be in the midst of the academy right around our wedding date.

cry.gif I cried of course and have been depressed, but FI says that I need to stop worrying about stuff that hasn't happened and that we'll deal with it when the time comes. He assured me that our plans would happen no matter what and that we'd work it out somehow ~ the man is certainly a calming influence and the voice of reason when I have my "freakouts".

Anyhow I am trying my best not to think about it, and just praying that things will work out for the best. Thank you again ladies for all your kind words of support ~ it means so much hug2.gif

By the way, we are almost neighbors now. Now that I got married, I moved to my hubby's house in Downey and Cerritos isn't too far away!

Hi neighbor!!! Downey and Cerritos are close ~ we should set up a local BDW brides meet, it would be so much fun. cheesy.gif

I actually work as a overnight News Reporter in the press room at the LAPD Headquarters in downtown LA ~ yep the ghetto ass Parker Center, lol. How does your DH like the LAPD, and which station does he work at? I write about all the overnight crime in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties, so I know how dangerous LAPD patrolled areas can be ~ do you ever worry about him being on the job?? I have a feeling I'm going to be a worrywart if FI enters law enforcement...frown.gif

Marie,

I am a NYC police officer. I know its different in Cali, but most are at least 6 months and sometimes 9 months if they do EMT training. In ny they usually have an idea of when the academy classes are going in. Usually whatever the tentative date is, it is usually later. It seems like he just started the whole process and has a long way to go. So please dont stress out. Just think he will be getting one of the most stable jobs in the world right now. The economy is so bad. You should be feeling like you just won the lotto---seriously.

You wedding will be fine and if he is in the academy than, tell you family the trip was just a preview of the hotel, so they can see what the wedding will be like the following year. HHAHAHAHHA.

Somehow it will all work out. Also definitly don't speak to his investigator now, but honestly you are not the first one who has gotten married in the academy. I am sure they will work something out to give him off. Good luck and keep us updated

I know in NY if you are chosen and cannot make it into the class they are calling for you can ask for an extension and get in the next class. So if it will not be done before your wedding it might be better to wait it out. My FI is a NYC Fireman and I know he was useless during training. Good luck I hop eit all works out

Yes, we need to set up a BDW meeting since there are so many of us from the LA area!

My hubby loves working in the LAPD. He's been an officer now for 10 years and he's about to be made Sgt. He's currently working out of the Hollenbeck station, but we're still not sure where he'll end up as Sgt. Since that isn't the best of areas, I do worry about him. But, I've learned to live with it and it doesn't stress me out at all anymore. He used to work in the gang unit at that same station and that was a bit more stressful because there were times where him and I would be out in LA just having a drink or whatever and we would see a cholo he had arrested and that's never good. But, he's been out of that unit for a while so I think it's much better now.

Even if you are a worry worm in the beginning, you some how will adjust to the stress and his schedule just fine. I think, for me, what makes it worse is when I'm watching the news and they announce a shooting in the area where my hubby works and then they leave you hanging until after commercials!! Other than that, you just get use to it. You will be just fine!!! And, it's great he gets to work in such a nice and safe area as Newport!!
